TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.
Eru Iluvatar | Tolkien
Eru had taken a form for the first time ever. One best suited to this world, though the world itself and the universe it belonged to were not of his making. Some of his Children were here, and this was an age much like one he'd want to save them from. But hadn't.
But here he was, and he'd decided to sit. Watch. And learn the nuances of the daily life of those who belonged, and did not belong. It was precisely why he'd taken such an old appearance. Who would suspect one such as he to appear so old? Dressed well, still, though in clothes barely suited for the time. That was the only oddity of the old man sitting at the docks with a thermos in hand.
Wildcard. He'll just take to wandering, so feel free to catch him anywhere, doing little more than watching and exploring.

It's not often even she sees someone like this. Someone cosmic.] It's nice to watch them, isn't it?
Each of them with their own lives and their own hopes and dreams. A thousand different stories being told right in front of our eyes.
Might have been stalking you a little. XD
There are tales all around, and more out of sight and mind.
oh my!
It's not like you, appearing in this kind of form. Or in this kind of world.
XD
I am certain the reasoning behind this change will become clear given the passage of time.
[Sorry Death, he's not talking. Surprise!]
WTB more Endless!
I thought so. You're just as stuck here as I am.
/snerk
Since you seem so knowledgeable of this world, as with so many, is that a common theme of those like us?

Who he was evaded Melkor, much to his frustration. For a moment he watched him wandering down the street. He appeared to be just another old man, one of the race of Men but Melkor sensed something else.
Something familiar.
It frustrates him that he can't just tell who this old man is. Something about him makes Melkor's fish clench with anger before something finally snapped inside of him.
"I demand you tell me who you are, old man."
no subject
The demand was amusing, and he raised a brow to give a thoughtful look. He could claim ignorance. He could say he'd never seen Melkor before. It would even be something of a truth - if only technically so. But no, that would have come from the part of him where Melkor had come from.
"Has it been so long since last we met, my son?"
no subject
His father had let him be imprisoned and let the others chain him in the halls of Mandos. Melkor had been punished for his vision, his Music countered time and time again. He had been made to be great, greater than the others but never given the allowance to truly shine.
The question only serves to enrage him, the hints of fire flaring out as a corrupt halo around the Valar.
"Through the ages of my imprisonment and silence from you, yes, such a long time has passed."
no subject
Eru ignored the flames of fury and stepped forward, closer to his first child with a small frown.
"Calm, Melkor." Even if one of the Eldar had renamed him, Melkor would forever be Melkor to him. "Cease your discord and return to harmony." He knew it would not happen, but for once he chose to ask. Ask, rather than demand.
And it was asking, from Eru.
"You of all should know I only spoke beyond Arda to those who sought out my counsel." Permission. Advice. Only Manwe.
no subject
"You would have me return to your music," Melkor pointed out, attempting to keep his tone controlled and calm. But the anger still shimmered beneath the surface, festering as it had throughout the ages.
"I have no doubt as to the council you gave my brothers and sisters but denied to me. I was held for three ages, only given pardon upon empty promises. Melkor had no regrets about breaking such promises as he considered that Manwe and the others had had no right to pass judgment upon him.

It's okay though. He stands out a lot too, dogtags tucked under his shirt and his "registered hero" tattoo on his wrist and the regretfully noticeable appearance he'd taken on. In his hands, he has a disposable cup filled with a milkshake that someone had insisted he try as he approaches the seemingly normal older man and takes a seat.
For a moment, he simply sits quietly and listens to the water before taking a sip of the milkshake and setting it down.]
I did not expect you here, father.
no subject
Eru is, of course, aware Namo's there. But is content to hold his silence and keep watching those walk by, occasionally taking a sip - such a strange thing for him to do!
A faint smile meets the words as they're finally spoken.]
Did you not?
no subject
We had all been under the impression that you meant to remain in the Timeless Halls.
[That and his foresight isn't what it was on Arda. He can't see things as he did there, he can't guess what these people will do or when except in a few instances.]
no subject
[He'll let you guess what he means by that. >D
He's noticed the lack as well. And is less than pleased by it, though it might have it's advantages. For once, he'd just have to wait and see for himself what would happen.]
no subject
That-
[It's also rare for him to ever really be struck speechless. Even if he is the one among the Valar that speaks only when he really needs to when it comes to important matters.]

Never before had Legolas set eyes on the breadth and depth of it, and it filled his heart with wonder. Something unspeakable within him stirred gently, a feeling he could not quite give voice to; longing, perhaps. There was no Amman across this sea, he knew.
But there was one sea whose passage would lead to those blessed shores. If he returned home, Legolas hoped to see it.
Legolas turned to the man sitting near him; and marveled a little that the man felt much older than any he met. But he could not think overmuch on it, so greatly was his heart taken up by the expanse before them. "Forgive me, grandfather. Do you know what lies over this ocean? If one were to sail upon it, where would you go?"
no subject
With eyes of the body, or of the fea.
'Grandfather', he heard, and glanced to the young elf prince he'd noticed long before. Had watched, though hadn't engaged him. The question had him smile faintly, a gentle expression as he pondered how this world changed the usual answer.
"I imagine other lands of this world. And eventually, right back here, for there is no Aman as we would recognize it." That they could reach. That they knew of.
Perhaps he was wrong, but the words felt real enough as he spoke them. A hint to the prince the little old man was indeed far more than he appeared.
no subject
"You hail from Arda, my friend?"
Perhaps he was one of the Istari, and kin to Mithrandir? The call of the ocean over his shoulder pulled at him, but Legolas set his focus upon the being before him- neither Eldar nor Man... but something altogether else.
no subject
"In a manner of speaking."
He was still working on how to act to appear human, to eat and drink like mortals required. Even how the Ainur had taken up. Mortal bodies required so much more than he was used to needing for himself.
