TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at someone else's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory might be a haze still and you might even feel frustrated or anxious by the sudden news that you are no longer in your own world and that the Porter scientists and military cannot send you back. You don't get a chance to linger long in the underground Porter lab, but something is clearly amiss; light patches on the floor indicate something else used to sit in that spot in the room. Parts of the wall, floor and the tables look recently refurbished -- something happened in here not too long ago.
You're ushered out quickly and then suddenly, you're enveloped in a faint blue blue light before you find yourself under the bright Floridian sun. Another soldier steps toward you with a smile, directing your attention to a car near a large gate. She mentions she'll be debriefing you soon, handing out a brown folder. You don't see the digital tattoo on your wrist, but it's quickly explained on your way over to the car as you realize there are other confused faces nearby, all holding files of their own.
02. According to the soldiers, a domestic terrorist attack is the reason why the cheery and small city of Heropa is still under some major reconstruction. For a small city, the amount of outside help called in for reconstruction and repairs has made it livelier than it normally is. Construction workers on coffee breaks wave to the most obvious looking imPorts, some will even salute you. "We couldn'a done away with those bastards if it weren't for good folk like you," they say.
Wherever you go, locals are pleasant and courteous enough, sometimes stepping forward to ask for a quick photo or autograph. Every now and then, however, anyone who is so obviously an imPort will find a local backing away from them nervously, pulling their child back with them before closing a door.
03. De Chima, Virginia, while it suffered some damage to its downtown area, never slowed down for a second. For a large city with a bustling population and booming economy, it's quieter than one would expect for it to be, too. If you're trying to avoid the awestruck crowds, you might be able to thanks to everyone ducking under umbrellas and buildings due to heavy rainfall today, provided you aren't letting it slip you're a newcomer to this world. If you're not exactly human-looking or wearing clothes that very much scream medieval ages (or distant future), sorry. There's a high chance the kids are going to crowd you in excitement.
Some locals seem less enthused to see you. They never make an approach, but they can be overheard scoffing and muttering something about cameras. "Who do they think they are?" or "I don't like it... it reminds me of the government corruption back in the eighties." What could they be talking about?
04. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania, has, as always, avoided any major or minor damages. Ask about the Hornets or the recent fights between imPorts and the locals will shrug. Don't get them wrong; they're glad those damn Hornets have been dealt with, but they don't want to discuss politics. Try asking the local imPort Ambassador. What's his name? Ryan? Revan? They don't offer any more information. Naturally for a big city, the people are somewhat aloof in nature. You might even notice the police are just the same, turning their heads the other way when two shady figures exchange fat wads of cash at the street corner. Did the police just drive away in their hovervehicle without bothering to observe what those two were up to? They sure did.
05. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities. It's loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. Anyone who they come to determine an imPort is bombarded with all sorts of offers; job offers, advertising gigs, spokesperson for advocating children stay in school, etc. Anything and everything! You name it. Shops offer discounts for food and clothing, whatever they need. People flock in droves with questions, but they all say the same thing. Thank you for your service to this country, Hero. You saved a lot of lives. Wow, feels great to be a hero, doesn't it?
Jean Havoc / Fullmetal Alchemist
The blonde in the wheelchair is getting less attention that many of the other imPorts, and that doesn't bother him in the least. His tattoo is hidden by a sleeve, and thankfully the blanket he was given back at the military base is a plain brown and grey weave with no military symbols on it.
He's just a bystander taking in the day and happily ignoring the sign thanking him for not smoking. That's all.
[wildcard]
Jean's been in a wheelchair long enough now that getting around is second nature to him. It's not often he needs assitance for anything, and luckily the places he wants to get to in this city are fairly wheelchair friendly.
However some bastard put the thing he needs on the top shelf of his convenience store, and he's not going home without it. Give him a hand?
wildcard
Havoc will find his chair elevated when Ed transmutes the floor underneath, to help him reach.]
Looked like you could use a hand.
no subject
Then he looks down at the familiar face of Edward Elric (older than he last saw him) and grins.]
You wouldn't be interested in following me around full time, hm?
no subject
[There's an almost knowing smirk at that, but Havoc really isn't that bad. Even if he's annoyingly seen Ed in some more embarrassing situations, like literally lying underneath Alexander. He lowers the hand back to the ground once Havoc gets whatever he needs from the higher shelf.]
Figured the Colonel would have helped a bit at least in this. I guess the Lieutenant is too busy babysitting him to help you out though.
no subject
If I wanted someone bragging about all the dates he was getting, I'd ask the Colonel. [That's not quite the truth. Jean feels he's enough of a burden to his friends right now without making more work for them. They've all got other things to be doing.]
no subject
[It's true that they're generally busy, but they always make time when they see or hear that one of their pseudo family of sorts needs help with something. If anything, being in Heropa has only reinforced their relationships in a way. Knowing who they can trust.]
no subject
[Jean had heard a few people mention the name Armstrong in the few days he'd been here, and he'd presumed they meant the one in Central.
His sister (and Briggs in general) were notorious. He tried to imagine her following him around and assisting him with his shopping. He couldn't.]
How about that... She hasn't already ended the war?
no subject
[There's a shrug, though Ed can't quite suppress the shudder because Olivier, like Izumi, kind of terrifies him really.]
Nah. If she had her way she would have, probably. By force. She's working her way up though. Has earned some command, leading some of us at Alaska months ago at first.
no subject
[It wasn't a surprise, hearing that she was working her way up. It actually brought a little relief to know that the military here was somewhat open to imPorts. Having someone from home high up couldn't hurt either.]
What happened at Alaska?
no subject
[But that's basically Ed's thinking. He's no longer in the military here. But he has some limited connections through some friends and those from home too.]
There were some ships there, they wanted us to check it out and see what was up. It's all over now anyway. More recently it was the Hornets and spies and stuff. Well. And Kimblee.
no subject
[Having collected everything he needs, he starts wheeling himself over the counter.] Can't we put him and the Major General in the same room and lock up whatever pieces of him are left when she's done?
no subject
[Ed sighs, running a hand through his bangs as he follows along after Havoc to the counter to get him served.]
no subject
[He pauses to give the girl behind the counter a charming smile as he pays for his goods.]
It'd be a service to the community.
no subject
[He says after Havoc has been served and they make their way out of the shop. Attempting to be quiet and say it mostly out of earshot.]
2!
What a relief it is, then, when he sees a familiar face just a little bit away. It was still a bit of a shock to see Havoc here, just as it was when the Lieutenant arrived, but it's good to know that he's safe and all right, despite the wheelchair.
Roy makes his way to him with a small smirk.]
Careful, Havoc. Smoke too many of those here, and you may end up with a fine.
no subject
Can you sign something for me, Colonel? I'll use that to pay.
no subject
[Wow look at that smug smirk as he takes a seat on a bench next to him. You can practically feel the ego radiating off him.]
Perhaps you should try it for yourself.
no subject
[There were a lot of questions he had, but here wasn't the time or place. For now he was just relieved to see a familiar face in this strange new world he'd apparently ended up in.]
no subject
[And maybe get some discounted groceries RIGHT??]
Which reminds me. I recently ran into Elizabeth the other day while I was out. She's been so busy, it's been hard for her to find some time to greet you. Perhaps we should all get dinner at some point. After all, we have a lot to catch up on.
