SHOW US WHATCHER MADE OF

TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at someone else's thread, either!
And remember there's only one rule in Test Drive Meme Club: have fun!01. The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place, where locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city. Some of the locals might thank you for always lending your service to the nation, while others might not say anything -- but if you have something nasty to say, better not say anything at all, right?
In one of the commercial areas, retailers are taking advantage of the mild weather to hold a sidewalk sale. New arrivals and long-settled imPorts alike will receive a small discount at most stores, and while a few locals give them envious looks, many are just interested in what they might buy. You could set a trend, hero!
02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, and though it's quieter than Heropa, there are still large numbers of citizens to be awed at your very presence. Look at you! Organic wonder! Science and technology are the lifeblood of this city, so you're likely to come across a good many locals taking your picture with the newest of devices. The imPort craze remains high here, and you may find yourself cornered by overzealous imPort fans, media wannabes and opportunists alike, shoving cameras in your face.
Their questions are likely to be fairly mundane, however; get ready for an interview about your taste in romantic partners, personal underwear choices, favorite foods, and more!
03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania has had its ups and downs since imPorts started reappearing. Several imPort heroes have put focused efforts into cleaning up the streets of this somewhat infamous city, while others have swooped in to help the criminal industry thrive. More so here than the streets of any other imPort city, the battle between good and evil looks more like a war of escalation than a heroic tale. That might make the less than warm welcome imPorts are given in the city a little more understandable. The emergence of locals with superpowers is hardly helping. While some of these individuals have turned to crime, many locals seem more inclined to defend their native powered drug dealer than help the non-native hero bring them to justice. Who are you to tell them how to live?
There's still snow on the ground in Maurtia Falls, and some locals have decided to hold an impromptu snowman-sculpting contest. But...wait. That one looks familiar! Some of the snow people are definitely meant to be imPorts, but they aren't exactly flattering likenesses.
04. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities; loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. To be American is to be part of a melting pot, and that there’s more money to be made by the thriving local industries hardly hurts.
Go wander and get your shopping in, folks. Any imPort willing to be interviewed about how their hot Valentine's Day date went is instantly surrounded by a small gaggle of people.
Doctor Octopus | Marvel 616 | the 90s sure did happen
[ A new world, a new life.
The last thing Otto Octavius remembered from home is his own death; and his primary feeling about it is humiliation, but also a profound sense of loss. He had, for a brief while, been happy. A woman loved him. He'd saved his greatest enemy from the brink of death, certain that their confrontations would continue to challenge and excite him forever.
And then it ended, and he woke up here.
He's far too intelligent to go on a violent, rage-filled rampage, though it's tempting. Instead he mourns his own death, and he explores this alternate Earth carefully. It's not the time for action, it's a time for planning.
Anywhere, you may see a man in sunglasses in a pure white suit with a black undershirt, with four twenty-feet long metal tentacles lifting him off the ground and carrying him around the city.
Watch out, as one of the tentacles might narrowly miss you. ]
02. De Chima
[ Disgusting.
Otto smiles as he answers the questions that the rabble of ill-informed, media-hungry locals ask about his arms. He needs to play the game. They don't know his background, they don't immediately paint him with the misconception that is the word "villain", as far as they're concerned he's merely a celebrity with a toy.
As much as the fact that they're underestimating him irks him, he recognizes that this might be an opportunity for people to finally recognize his genius. So he smiles, ignores the questions about his underwear or his favourite foods, and only addresses the ones that even vaguely pertain to science. ]
No, these are of my creation. Through my own sweat and labour I crafted these masterpieces. They are not just powerful --
[ He stretches one of his arm through the crowd to a flower box on a windowsill nearby, carefully snipping off one of the flowers and bringing it up to one of the woman holding out her phone to record his responses. ]
-- But precise, as you can see, my dear.
03. Maurtia Falls
[ Maybe you're watching the locals make snowpeople. Maybe you're just walking by.
Suddenly, from the roof above you, a man in a white suit with a scarf around his neck sweeps down, carried by long metal arms, observing one in particular.
One that bears an uncanny resemblance to Spider-Man.
If you're close enough, you may be able to hear him murmur: ]
So you're here as well, my foe.
3
It's supposed to be warm tomorrow. Don't worry, it'll melt.
no subject
He's been misunderstood, somehow, though he's not particularly inclined to correct the man. ]
Indeed. The weather can be a cruel, indecisive mistress, particularly during this season.
no subject
[ Maybe he doesn't like getting his arms cold. It would make sense, cold metal is No Joke. ]
By the way, I'm Erik.
no subject
[ He's growing impatient with this conversation, but perhaps there's still some way to get some use out of it. ]
Dr. Otto Octavius. [ With one of his real, human arms he gestures to the various snow-people the locals are making. ]
From my understanding, these are meant to be facsimiles of figures, as clumsy and inept the attempt is. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I've not spent enough time in this world to be able to parse who they're supposed to be.
[ Except for Spider-Man, of course, but he's keeping that close to his chest for now. But there are others, various well-known and even lesser known imports. ]
You wouldn't happen to be able to discern them any better than I'm currently capable of, could you?
no subject
Most of these are portraits of people who live around here, yes.
You'll meet quite a few of them. I see you've already met Spiderman.
This one, I think, is Dorian. Or maybe Sherlock.
[ He squints ]
It might be Adachi. The likeness is not particularly good.
Do you want one?
[ His would be easy to make! ]
no subject
[ C'mon, Doc, tell 'em how you really feel. ]
I've come to understand that in this universe, one just shows up and they're deemed a celebrity. In your opinion, would any of these people actually have earned the acclaim?
no subject
[ Like Loki. Or um, Harry Styles? ]
Why, were you?
no subject
Anyone can be famous. Those who are born with silver spoons in their mouths and cotton for brains can be famous. Now, to be acclaimed -- perhaps. Or infamous, if one works against the common grain.
[ Despite what he said earlier, his arms start moving. If you want a snow-person version of yourself done right, you've gotta do it yourself. He's slowly building a little version of himself, facing Spider-Man in a triumphant sort of pose. ]
no subject
Does it matter?
He can have this. ]
no subject
Which is to say, two of his snowperson's tentacles are clearly wrapped around Spider-Man's chest. ]
Isn't that better?
no subject
Thought you'd like spiders. They have eight legs too.
[ This is getting weird, Ock. ]
no subject
Who said I didn't? When one plays chess, do you hate your opponent? Or do you want them to be clever, intelligent, and skilled, so to create the best game possible? One cannot showcase's one's own skill if one doesn't have a good foil.
no subject
I'm not really sure the two of you are playing the same chess match, in this case.
[ And then he uh, starts unwrapping the beams because don't be weird Otto there are children around. ]
before there was the 90s, there was the 70s and 80s - 2
That's quite a construct you've got there. Cybernetic controls?
aw yeah
[ He recognizes curiosity for what it is. While chit chat isn't his strong suit, he can't quite resist the inclination to brag about his babies. ]
I can control my arms with but a thought, even from a distance.
[ Even as he speaks, they seem to slowly move about him, as if they're restless. Possibly because he himself is restless. ]
2!
Eventually though, the reporters leave and there's just Connors, standing there and still watching Doctor Octopus as if he doesn't know what to do. ]
Ah! [ well, might as well talk him up now considering he's the only person there and the two've already made eye contact by now. ] I was just curious...have you been told about the fact that some people arrive in this world from the same world?
[ oh god oh man this is probably a bad idea ]
no subject
I'm not an imbecile, I've done my due diligence since my arrival in this alternate reality. If you are attempting to use your question as a lead-in to the topic you truly wish to discuss, than may I suggest getting to the issue at hand.
no subject
There's a lot of people from our world. Turning over a new leaf might be harder than you realize, Doctor Octopus.
no subject
[ He's not that surprised, he expects people to know who he is -- it's the odds of someone from his world to happened to be right there that he wasn't anticipating. ]
Would this be a prelude to a suggestion, a warning, or an attempt at blackmail?
no subject
I suppose a warning? Speaking as someone who's trying to turn over a new leaf, it's harder than one would realize.
no subject
[ He presses his fingertips together. ] But perhaps it's your methods that leave much to be desired. To change one's public perception is child's play.
no subject
There's always, ah, external factors ready to trip you up.
no subject
[ In Otto's experience, 90% of the time that's Spider-Man. And Spider-Man can always be accounted for. ]
no subject
Especially considering the whole alternate universe aspect. Have you gotten the Cold War talk yet?
