Then explain it to him. He has to make his own decisions in the end... you can help make them better informed ones. He's talked to me about wanting to pick up a gun to learn how to use it, how to be ready to kill, but he doesn't know what he'd even be killing for. Help him find the tools to use that don't rely on frightened fingers pulling down on triggers because he doesn't know how to make the bad things stop.
