Charlie Oliver Maxwell III where do I even freaking BEGIN.

Kasumi met Charlie at a time in her MoM life when she was still trying to find her way, still wondering how she fits into this all, if at all. At that point she'd limited her interactions to mostly just the Normandy crew, some dude named Peter Quill, and like, two teenagers who clicked with her and she felt needed her guidance/protection/whatever. She knew there was something special about him from the moment she saw him twirling his fingers, but honest to god, she did not expect she would come to care for and straight up love this adorable wizard when she first started teasing him about the whole finger twirling thing. Because she always keeps people at arm's length, but somehow Charlie managed to worm his way into her sad, cold, lonely heart because he's unlike anyone she's ever met before.

Because he's from a world that's entirely different--when she's with him, she doesn't have to think about how there are giant cuttlefish destroying the galaxy back home. She doesn't have to worry about being on the run to keep Keiji's graybox safe. He gives her a sense of normalcy and relief that I'm not sure anyone else would be able to provide, at this point. He can fire her banter right back at her, he doesn't even question her shady character and the way she hides herself, and, just. She doesn't feel the need to be super extra dodgy with him, and she appreciates that so much without even realizing. For all the pretending she has to do back home and here, to an extent, she doesn't realize how much she needs someone to just be. With. Just someone to exist with like a normal person.That's Charlie for her.

So that she comes to trust him with her most personal details--the whole Keiji thing, for one, and then her appearance--both surprises her and doesn't. It surprises her because she's not supposed to talk about it, but she's still in the process of getting it through her head that here, nobody's coming after her for the graybox (not yet, at least). She has no reason, really, to hide except for the illegal things she does, which are just whatever compared to hiding the graybox. But it doesn't surprise her because out of anyone around, Charlie should know.

She's also gotten a lot of hints, by now, that it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for Charlie, either. Part of it is that she can't imagine living for as long as he has without having gone through some serious shit--but beneath Charlie's unfairly pretty blue eyes, Kasumi can see a touch of that burden and sadness. She wants, so badly, to be able to be there for him, but she doesn't drag things out of people that she really cares about (at least, not something that personal. Juicy gossip is obviously fair game gosh.), so she'll wait for him to be ready.

She would do anything for you, Charlie. ANYTHING. Protect him from everything because how dare anyone hurt her favorite person here, who's shown and reminded her of how nice it is to just be a person sometimes. To not be Kasumi Goto, the galaxy's best thief and a member of Shepard's crew, but just. Kasumi.

He has a way of bringing that sort of thing on himself, yes.

Intentionally get into it? Not as much anyway but it does happen. Because he jumps in without thinking. Riku would prob thank Glitch for keeping an eye out, tbh. As much as it would make Sora pout and dismiss that protectiveness.

Winry though. Oh boy. Here goes.

He loves her. Winry is. Well, she is home to him. In as much as he really has a home to return to. It's always been Resembool, even after burning down their house. Always been her and Pinako he returns to when things get over his head. When he needs that time to get his head back into the game. When he does break and need to talk to someone about it. It's her. Always.

And he admires her so damned much. Her passion and creativity and care in her work for each individual customer and their needs she takes it all into account and gives it her all and then some. And the proof is in his bragging, in her clients clamoring for her return to Rush Valley when she stays in Central a while with the Scar confrontation and all. He's just in awe of it and really respects that, even if he himself has his own passion in alchemy and research.

There's just a genuine caring that Winry has that far surpasses Ed's own when he so much more often is much more harsh and blunt than he might mean to be. She makes friends so naturally. But on the flipside, with Kimblee and all, this also does worry him some. Even if he won't necessarily admit it.

More than that though, he just honestly likely feels there's no way he can hope to return the favor for everything she's done for him over the years. But he'll sure as heck try. Even if he knows she worries and he hates to worry or upset her. Just all the more reason to strive to make up for it somehow.

Oh, Riku you have no idea. But then, given a bit of time Ed probably would be willing to talk a bit more on the situation back home. Filtered/in person as almost always but he's still just cautious like that just in case someone like Bradley were to possibly show up. Not that there is a lot to be done from here about all that Promised Day etc but still. We could work to that.

And as for the alchemy, he's a big show off so if Riku asked, he'd likely be all too happy for a demonstration sometime.

Ha. I'm almost tempted and amused enough to see if she would kidnap him away for a period to try it. But y e a h, we are all well aware of how his determination not to kill can bite him in the ass. More than once now. Even if it is also perhaps something to be admired in a way, she's right to be wary of it at the same time when he is a soldier, albeit a younger one by far than most all others.

Slow burn is the best kind of cr and I love it, yes. It will make the reveal that much more 'oh shit' and betrayal and all that deliciousness.

That's to say, so far she's totally the sort of person he would love to be. She's been polite. She's been mature. She was calm despite how weird his dreamworld was and she was also nice. She reminds him of Mitsuru in a way, but that only increases his respect for her a bit more because Ken really likes Mitsuru, too.

That said, he's REALLY REALLY EMBARRASSED that she ended up in his dreamscape because holy crap that thing was a ride. She saw his deepest secrets (ie his hatred of green peppers and soon his love of super sentai) and he cannot believe it. Gosh! But she isn't making fun of him for it or treating him like a kid as a result so he appreciates that, really. She would gladly be friends with her.

ANYWAY he doesn't have the most solid outlines or opinions just YET but if she's hanging out with demon bros he imagines that her form of mage (-ery? ism? what is the correct word, hell if Will knows he knows nothing about the supernatural like that he is Jon Snow here) probably veers to something darker. She's not the Final Fantasy healer type mage, you know, the ones that pray and have faith and summon both adorable helpful beasties as well as the most terrifying things you ever did see but overall retains a kind personality. She's probably involved in some crazy ass dark morbid magic and he would just rather not deal with it, thank you. Which doesn't necessarily mean she's a bad person at all (good and evil are different in the worlds around here, it seems) because maybe that type of magic is, like, the thing back where she's from? He acted as a parole officer for Ken Kaneki, who comes from a place with ghouls. They eat people, that is their norm and what they have to eat in order to keep going so it's like...even if her magic is this horrifying (Frollo voice) witchcraft, if she comes from a place where that's everyone's thing or just how it is, uh...what can you do?

BUT. Outside of the being naked and getting it on with Matthew (girl please love yourself), she was pretty much what he thought she'd be from their Network talks. Weird stuff rolls off her like water from a duck's back, she's got a bit of a foul mouth, and

Okay so Will has a bad habit of projecting some of his own issues on Ken with frequency. Mostly that someone will find him of interest (for Ken's cannibalism and his abilities, not the same as why Hannibal found Will interesting, but still the same sort of "no why" interest) and act on that in a way that's harmful. To Ken, to people around him (people he cares about or does not), and mess with him. In Will's mind, Ken legitimately does not need anyone else to mess with him. Someone please help Ken Kaneki by just leaving that poor bastard alone, my God.

So he's always a little on edge talking about to Ken to others, if he doesn't know them or hasn't been given the 411. His whole asking Touka if she was a ghoul was NOT meant as an insult or to be rude or anything, but for a bit of clarity...Ken's told him that he took to eating ghouls instead of humans so if Touka is actually a human buddy that makes a bit more sense, to him. There are three outcomes from their conversation and he won't know for sure until he asks (maybe he'll ask Ken, maybe not):

- Touka is a legitimate regular human, except for the fact that she's buddies (or appears to be buddies) with a ghoul. So either she's somewhat deranged and finds eating people/ghouls sort of badass, or she's this well of understanding and kindness and all that stuff because she knows what he does and still chooses to hang out with him anyway, recognizing that he can't not do what he does since his biological make up is completely different.
- Touka is some third option from ghoul world. Not a ghoul, not a human, not a half-human-half-ghoul or anything like that. Maybe a god/angel/demon/vampire/SOMETHING ELSE so that Ken being a ghoul is absolutely not a problem because she's either stronger/better/more skilled/invincible or just doesn't give a shit.
- Touka is a LIAR and a ghoul herself. Why ashamed of eating people, child? They're so tasty.

Peter (Star-Lord to Will, at least) seems like a pretty chill, laidback sort of guy, the kind who rolls with the punches. Looking at some of his other Network conversations (sorry bro) it probably has to do with, well, being Star-Lord. Traveling through space and stuff MIGHT HAVE prepared him a little better for being abducted by the Porter and put on a different version of Earth with people who are also from other worlds. So while Will isn't necessarily 100% the biggest fan of superheroes or people who come from worlds where this sort of shit isn't completely unthinkable, he does appreciate their presence. They have a better grip on certain aspects of shit that can go down, to his thinking, so it's at least good that there ARE some around who won't just go !?!!!?? WE'RE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKED and instead maybe had a similar experience back in their own wacky ass worlds. Star-Lord makes for a nice addition to that!

But he also thinks that there's something a bit off, other than the whole...knows aliens...traveled in space...probably dealt with weird shit like this before. Now, off doesn't necessarily ever equate to unhealthy or bad with Will, so it's not an insult. Looking around at the people who've come through in the year he's been here, uh, everyone is a little bit off in their own way. Peter's humor and his ability to roll with the punches could be a product of his brand of off—you know the whole laugh to keep from crying? Like that. Except Peter doesn't seem like he cries himself to sleep at night every night cuddling a teddy bear in a Black Sabbath t-shirt (though lbr half the taken page probably has those nights if not more), he just seems off in the way that everyone else is a little off. The normal sort of off, which is really more like being on since it's not that abnormal. They've had their own traumatic experiences and Peter's response to that is to guffaw at terrible album covers. Which isn't to say that his reactions of not taking things 100% seriously all the time are a front, or a lie (could be his version of a suit of armor, though). Nor is it to say that Peter's sense of clowning around makes him a clown or a joke of a person...

It just makes him more down to Earth, and easier to relate to. It makes him more human and touchable. Unlike his abs, which are CLEARLY magic or science fiction serums/pills SOMETHING. He's basically the whole "one of us" wrapped into a neat little package that isn't completely one of them (space travel you lucky lucky bastard). He's well-rounded (and abs) and even if he looks like one of April's ex-boyfriends (does he have those abs WORRIES FOREVER), Will can't be too terribly bothered by it.

Star-Lord is super cool people. Would not eat.

POWER GIRL (is not KAREN STARR):
This is great CR, and the land of miscommunication station, train now boarding. Will has little against those who take up capes (more thanks to Peej, gj gj), but the fact is that she did threaten Freddie publicly and he can't ignore that. He feels it would have looked EXTREMELY BAD if someone working her investigation just immediately said YEAH OKAY AWESOME SUPERPOWERS ON OUR SIDE BLESS and took her help right off the bat...which led to a lack of indoor voice, OOPS. There's also the issue that Will in canon got heat for his relationship with Freddie, as you know. It made sense that others would side-eye him for what eventually happened to "her" and even though he knew that, it still sucked. Trying to keep the balance with Power Girl is a bit more difficult thanks to that, but it's helpfully padded by how he knows very well sometimes people put their foots in their mouths without actually having any intent behind it. Ideally, he'd like to have a (somewhat/mostly) honest discussion and put them on the same page. It's just sort of difficult for him to go about saying that, exactly.
Except now that Abigail's back, he's going to have to. Because Power Girl might be a bit rash with her words, but she's still Power Girl. She's somebody he could benefit from having on his side of things, more than just "she's a superheroine so lmao???? she has to help out if people need her???? LMAO???? STILL GONNA BE A COMPLETE ASSHOLE TO HER OTHERWISE THO" that's both rude and ungrateful at the same time. Obnoxious entitled civilian behavior smh.

But he's not the complete center of her life - while she would always devote herself to him, she's not just the type of woman who'd be the stay at home wife, no, she has her own things she needs to do. And so does Ed. So she'll let him go as far as he needs to, knowing he'll always (eventually) return home.

She trusts him explicitly - even though she knows he's apt to lie or completely withhold information, and that really annoys her, she still trusts him to do whatever he thinks is right - which is usually the right thing anyway.

She's watched him grow from a somewhat selfish boy into a caring, albeit prickly and gruff young man. That has to make an impression. She admires him, too, for his tenacity.

Oh, and arguing with him is so much fun.
