TL;DR cr meme

THE TL;DR CR Meme

It's that time again and why not start it off with a heart warming and tragic foreshadowing gif?

1. Post with your characters - if you have more than one, make a catch all under one header.
2. respond to other people's characters with your characters.
3. They will tell you exactly what their character thinks of your character in depth! Icly or oocly! Make it long, this is teal deer territory after all.
4. React if you wish!
5. You can use this stuff for cr charts or you can even link to something you have written.
6. This is brought to you by irony from one of the more unfriendly characters in game.

PUN MANNNN

Boy, Jaime really likes Will, more than he'd ever really expected to. He doesn't think that Will puts up a front per se, but he also thinks he's a lot kinder than he lets on, and a lot of that has to do with subtlety. He doesn't go out of his way to ask people if there's anything wrong - or so he hasn't with Jaime - but he's quick with a distraction and a kind word, and he shows a certain kind of willingness to get to know people. Jaime can tell that he's fairly reserved, but he's been nothing but kind and friendly, and that's enough to give him a very good impression of the guy. He genuinely enjoys talking to him, and appreciates the fact that he seems to talk to him as an equal, not as some stupid kid.

He's got some trepidation about the whole superhero thing, though. The thing is, he's not entirely sure Will's wrong, per se, just as ill informed as Jaime is about worlds without superheroes. He kind of welcomes the critical thought, honestly, and he thinks he has a great point, because in order for them to keep on doing what they're doing well, they need people to point out their legitimate issues, and god knows there are more than a few. Being able to figure out these issues and quantify them is annoying as hell on the efficiency side (poor Peej!), but it's earned Will a lot of respect.

Jaime also loves the shit out of his puns. TEACH HIM MORE SENPAI

HAHAH GOD. SORRY YOU'RE GONNA GET A LOT OF DISJOINTED RAMBLING because I'm tired but I still want to spam you

To this day, Jaime has probably gotten into more disagreements with Wally than anyone else in MOM, save for the people he actually dislikes, and SOMEHOW that means that Wally's his best friend here. He just happens to be endlessly aggravating and incredibly willing to point out Jaime's faults. An important thing to note is that even if someone else pointed the exact same things that Wally did, Jaime wouldn't necessarily take them to heart, but coming from a friend who knows him as well as anyone knows him, and someone he respects? He absolutely takes those sorts of things to heart, which means it annoys him even more. SPEEDSTERS: THE CONSTANT PLAGUE. So yeah, Wally's the dude who consistently gets the most sheer emotion out of Jaime (ANNOYING, SO ANNOYING), which is probably why Wally actually makes such a good friend for him -- he needs that in his life, even if these days, Wally has totally taken the wind out of his sails.

So I think it's important to point out how much Jaime actually respects Wally. He's inexperienced as any teenaged hero, but Jaime's absolutely aware of exactly how much more Wally knows than him, and in all likelihood, how much better Wally is at the whole package than he is. It's not just about sheer strength out there, but about teamwork, organization, ties to the community, working with a mentor, how to speak to civilians, how to work a camera... Wally's got Thoughts about those, and Jaime's a really receptive audience, because his own thoughts on it all are still extremely tentative. Superhero communities??? WELL HE'S GOT HIS CARROT OVER THERE, does that count???? He's got the practical work pretty down pat, but the rest of it is sort of a mystery, and somehow Wally's become his best resource for that. Which means, yeah, Jaime respects the hell out of Wally for what he does (and obviously he's a good enough hero to earn himself one of those statues that mean "yeah this kid died in battle OOPS"), and how much he puts into it. Wally's not like him, and he knows it -- Wally's in the hero gig because he wanted it hard enough, and that's worth an awful lot, even if Jaime doesn't necessarily understand it.

But they've always been sort of friends first and heroes second, which means he does really like Wally. When they're not getting on each other's asses about FeelingsTM, he's an easy guy to hang out with. Wally has a lot of fun, which means everyone around him has a lot of fun too, so if it's 3 AM and he can't sleep, Wally's the guy getting texted, or if he just needs to flop on a couch and play video games for a while, he's there for a lot of that too. He's the guy where Jaime knows he could just call him up, and chances are, Wally'd be there. There's a lot of sappy, sugary stuff that could go here, but basically Wally's a great guy, and Jaime loves the shit out of him.

...but that doesn't change what their whole last-last log was about, which is that Wally deals with things by not dealing with things, and lashing out when he's confronted. Jaime's forgiven Wally, and he will always forgive him (and there were understandable mitigating circumstances), but the kid knows how to hit him where it hurts, specifically because Jaime likes and respects him so much. He's forgiven, but he's not liable to forget, because what Wally has to say means something to him. THE BIGGEST ISSUE THOUGH is that Wally feels like dealing with his death alone is something he should do, and something that's right to do, and that's... worrisome, so he's going to be fussing about that for a good, long time. He kind of wonders if they did the right thing by telling Wally, so it's their job to try to help him deal with it...

...or not deal with it fabulously by trying to avoid his death so they can all stop CRYING ALL THE TIME thank you I'm out I'M STOPPING MYSELF NOW

TADASHI, JAIME LIKES THE SHIT OUT OF YOU

OKAY okay let's do this. I'm going to preface this by saying that Tadashi's relationship with Jaime is pretty unique in how subtly it started, and how surprisingly quickly it grew. He's so used to being with a lot of loud, explosive personalities, or having to chip away at defenses for months, but neither one happened with Tadashi. They happened to have mutual acquaintances, hung out a few times, and after that, it was easy for a rapport and mutual trust to grow. It's the sort of relationship where you wake up in the morning and think to yourself: how the hell did that happen? It's the natural sort of friendship that you'd expect to happen more often, but in a place like MOM, it's way more frequent that people only become friends through having to endure together. Their relationship didn't have to weather any of that -- it's just one of those things where they're very similar people and mesh really well, which makes theirs a very comfortable relationship.

He really likes having Tadashi around. In their little group, having someone normal, down-to-earth and genuinely friendly means a hell of a lot, and he's become something of a safe haven for him in that respect. When things with their share group of friends are rough, he has no doubts that he and Tadashi can just quietly hang out together for a while, relegated to the background, which is absolutely the way he likes it. Having that buddy around where you can just talk is 100% underrated, and Jaime's greedy for more normalcy in his life, which is something Tadashi can provide. It's that nice, calm, soft place to fall when everything else is going a little nuts.

Which means it's easy to forget the fact that Tadashi's a genius, because of course all his friends are geniuses. He respects Tadashi's willingness to go after the Porter and actually take a proactive stand in finding a solution, as ignorant about the motivation as he is, and he was really impressed with the way Tadashi took his criticisms. He didn't try to refute them, or get angry that Jaime was poking holes (as he always does), but took them into account. That's the sort of person Jaime wants messing with the Porter, and he thinks it really recommends Tadashi as an extremely trustworthy guy. +100 points, buddy, he respects the hell out of you.

...of course, now they've seen into each other's nightmares, and Jaime's not entirely sure what to make of that. He really doesn't want to talk about his own, because he's keeping a secret, so he'll just look like that weenie who really overreaacted to an aborted invasion attempt, and Tadashi's strange fascination with the Porter is worrisome as hell. It makes him think that there's more to it, but he doesn't know how to broach it without having to make a confession about himself too.

It's something he'll keep in mind, though. He's going to think back to what Ken said about Minato, about how the guy who tries to be strong for everyone else needs help too, and hey, maybe he can try and be that guy for Tadashi. Dude's got enough responsibility on his plate as it is!

WHAT UP GOGO okay so despite having only two threads, I am tickled pink that they got a fantastic headstart on their CR by seemingly unknowingly help assuage each other's fears... because, ultimately, that was the same fear! Jaime's never been particularly lonely, but he's been alone in the very literal sense of the word -- floating up in space without a single other soul in sight scared the shit out of him, which is why his dreamscape showed up as blank.

Up until Gogo arrived, and even as things went sideways, they were better from that point in, and I think there's going to be a part of Jaime that will always sort of unconsciously associate her with that, with being that interruption in the nightmare that means that he's not alone anymore. Jaime's always got sort of macro-concerns; he wants people as a whole to be okay, and he looks out for the bigger picture more than himself, which means having someone else around gave him a focal point to focus on, so that instead of being scared, he can try to help someone else instead. He's going to get a hell of a surprise when he sees her IRL for the first time after the dream.

ANYWAY onto Gogo herself -- he likes her! He can already tell that she's exceptionally brave and strong, a clear mind in an incredibly confusing situation, and absolutely willing to work together. There's nothing about her that he doesn't like at the moment, and hers is exactly the calm, cool head that he needed in the dream, even if it's the sort of thing that tends to go awry. He'll be really interested in getting to know the real her, once they finally meet.

like I don't tl;dr all the time about all my cr on plurk LET'S BE REAL

ANYWAY, not much about Jaime's thoughts on Maria have changed! There's a lot about her that makes him profoundly sad, in a way that Maria herself probably wouldn't think is all that sad. Jaime's idea of happiness is a very traditional one, and sending yourself off to a war without any idea of what you'd want to do during peacetime while being estranged from your family and home do not apply. He knows that Maria thinks the future is kind of a stupid place in a lot of ways, but sometimes he wonders what she'd be like if she had been afforded the same opportunities in her youth as she'd be afforded now.

MARIA MADE HIM THINK ABOUT SEXISM IN HISTORY and man that sucks. He hopes that she can find happiness here, so that maybe when it's time to go back, some of that can transfer over and she can find something she wants to do except, y'know. Hit things with a sword.

When it comes to the two of them, though, he has a funny feeling that he should be more intimidated by her than he is, but he's just... not. He knows she's an amazing soldier that has had her place in history, that she managed to be good enough to get as far as she has as a woman in an unforgiving time, but instead she's just kind of fun, and entirely too entertaining to tease. He's taken her to treating her sort of the way he'd treat a big sister, and he honestly has so much more fondness for her than anything else. You'd think it'd be fascination, or intimidation, or that he'd look up to her, but nope, it's all fondness, all the way. He doesn't understand her half the time, but he likes her an awful lot.

ROXAS, BUDDY 8(

The thing is, Roxas just seems like such a sweet kid. He's got his head on right, it seems to Jaime, he's just had a really rough go of it, with all sorts of crazy memory shenanigans and dead friends, the thing that seems to plague them all. There's nothing he really dislikes about Roxas, honestly, and for someone who lives with the kid, he figures he could probably stand to do more than he already has, but... hey, he's a busy guy! Nevertheless, he does try to look out for him as best he can.

Roxas has had a big, empty vacuum where nice, normal meories ought to go, and as trying as living in Heropa can be sometimes, he thinks it's the perfect place for reclaiming things like that. He'd like to help show Roxas what a normal life is and could be, and to help him try things he never got the opportunity to try before.

STRAP IN FOR BOOSTER GOLD because oh my god when did jaime get to love this big doofus so much?

I think I'll start off by saying that Jaime really loves how low-maintenance Booster is. He can tell him pretty much anything, and most of the time, he won't fly off the handle. So if Jaime needs to bitch about Hal, or tell him about the whole Hisoka thing, or just bemoan something in general, Booster's liable to be there, steady and solid and supportive, and most importantly, pretty damn calm. That's fantastic, because everyone else he knows is more than likely to fly off the handle in his defense, when Jaime's pretty sure he can take care of himself. Booster's that one guy who knows about every aspect of his life (he's met his family, gone to a backyard bbq, knows about jaime's thoughts about both donuts AND Duty) who can sort of act as a wonderfully safe place. And it's really safe in every definition of the word, because something Jaime respects more than anything else is that when it finally came out how upset Booster (and by proxy the JL) made him through their neglect of his situation, Booster accepted that he made a mistake, and actually apologized. That meant a lot, and honestly did a lot to skyrocket Jaime's opinion of good old Booster Gold.

He also has a lot of respect for him, respect that's sort of couched in defensiveness bc he's becoming rapidly aware that the other heroes don't respect Booster and that is a Problem. Booster's part of a legacy that Jaime's trying to live up to, and everyone's seemed to forget that beyond the photo ops and the stupid jokes, they actually did a lot of good work. Do you know who remembers the good work? THIS GUY. He researched Ted pretty thoroughly, and just about everything Ted did to recommend himself, Booster was present for. Having a certain type of personality doesn't make you any less of a hero, and it kind of makes Jame upset that people who KNOW BETTER would write Booster off. WHAT THE HECK!!! READ THE NEWS, YOU GUYS. He doesn't necessarily want to do his thing the way Booster does his, but he jumps at the chance to work with him, and will listen to his advice, in whatever form he gets it in. It's just so obvious to Jaime that there's more to Booster than what's on the surface. Don't get him wrong, he likes what's on the surface and he'll chit chat about inane shit all day long, but when he needs to bring up what it's like to have dead friends, Booster gets it. When it comes to the weight of big crises? Booster gets it. It's a lot easier for Jaime, because Booster does drop the act around him easily, and they've had their fair share of serious conversations, which have all ended... really well? For shame, Booster, you've been a good, responsible adult figure. How did that happen.

He still thinks the dude's really silly. So yeah, make fun of the dumb calendar, or his collection of hair products, or the way he gets offended at the slightest insult against his appearance, but he'd get awfully angry if someone decided to malign the work he's actually done. GET AWAY FROM HIS CARROT

Of course, underneath all that is something else he's mad about, which is the fact that nobody's noticed how fucked up Booster is -- or more importantly, nobody's actually cared enough to ask. Booster gave his origin story away pretty easily! He's left his home behind, left behind a family and an entire world, latched onto another, and had that fall away underneath his feet. Booster obviously needed help after Ted's death, and everyone... what, just wrote him off? He kind of wishes he could help, but he's not sure how, and he's kind of the replacement Blue Beetle so that would also be super weird. Point is, he kind of worries, he just doesn't know what to do with that worry.

He's been such a reliable figure in Jaime's life for so long now, and it's actually been of a huge comfort to him. As soon as the silly slapfight ends, Booster's pretty much exactly the guy Jaime would have wanted to see after three days of nightmares, and even if sticking around for three whole days is probably excessive, Jaime's glad that he was there. He knows that Booster has had every opportunity to scorn him as a replacement for his best friend, or to ignore him, but he hasn't.

oh my god I'm sorry this got long TL;DR JAIME LOVES BOOSTER, THINKS MORE PEOPLE SHOULD LOVE THIS DUMB MAN also please give him a hug

CHILD.

This happens a lot to Jaime and kid characters, I've been finding, but he's grown to love Ken a lot in an alarmingly short period of time. Even if he gave into a thorough self-examination about how he feels about Ken's role in Shinji's death, there's not even an inch of ill will he feels towards the kid, only compassion. Sometimes, he can't help but think about how different Ken would be if tragedy managed to bypass him altogether. He has a really high opinion of him, knows how clever and brave and strong and caring Ken can be, and he wishes that he got the opportunity to really stretch and explore all that in a proper little kid way instead of a... My Mom Is Dead And I Now Fight Monsters And Also Revenge sort of way. Ken is still capable of achieving his goals, but he'll never be the relatively carefree kid he ought to have had the chance to become. There's so much raw potential in Ken, and it's so awful that his life has been coloured by tragedy and neglect Jaime wants to punch his whole extended family.

Aside from that, he's actually a little amazed at how quickly Ken warmed up to him and opened up to him, but it's a delightful surprise. He's so happy that he can be there for him, and when they're not talking things out, he genuinely enjoys Ken's company. He's a genuinely great kid, thoughtful and caring for others, but he's still a kid. That's something Jaime's going to take advantage of - and has taken advantage of - every so often, because his reactions are still pretty hilarious. It's a nice reminder too that he is just a kid, and sometimes they should treat him more like one sometimes. Jaime's really pleased to have him around, even if it's even to grab a bite to eat, or to walk Koromaru, or to attempt to whup his ass at video games. Ken deserves that grab at normalcy, but in a lot of ways, Jaime needs it too. Sure, the p3 cast has put him through the wringer, but he has these wonderful, crystalline moments of normalcy with them some days, like everyone in the room is normal, and Jaime really treasures it.

Of course, there's the elephant in the room that is Ken's mental state, and it's one that Jaime can't quite manage to figure out. He's still kicking himself for missing the signs, and honestly, he's probably going to kick himself about it for the rest of his life. He thinks that it could have been avoided if they were just a little better at looking out for them -- and he especially should have noticed, as someone who Ken opened up to periodically. It really, truly breaks his heart that Ken was driven to feel so hopeless, and to feel so down on himself when Jaime can see what a wonderfully exceptional kid he is, and IF YOU DON'T THINK JAIME CRIED ABOUT IT WHEN HE GOT HOME YOU'RE WRONG ken there have been tears shed over your sorry state. He's taken it as a personal duty to try and help Ken out of that hole so that he not only wants to live, but that he can find some sort of joy and duty in it. It honestly worries him that Ken's current reasoning is to protect people - especially one person in particular - but he's not sure what else he can give Ken to hang onto. He hopes, though, that he'll manage to build up his life and enrich it, and he's going to be trying really hard to find out what hobbies Ken will enjoy so he can just throw them at him willy nilly.

On top of all of that, I think that he's noticed how solemn Ken is, but also how clever. He's really an incisive kid. He knows how to cut straight to the heart of a problem and to expose it for what it is (that must come with valuing truth so much; it was incredibly impressive that after everything, he decided to come clean with everyone on his own) and as that's a skill that Jaime sometimes lacks, he's sort of amazed by it. Ken watches everything and listens to everything, enough to tell Jaime to look out for Minato. He thinks that Ken's going to grow up to become a really impressive man one day, but until then, he'll do his part to try and salvage the remainder of his childhood.

ABSOLUTELY

ANYWAY, Jaime's got bad stranger danger, which means that he's getting only good vibes from good old Mr. White right now! He was actually really pleased to hear that he's from ABQ, because that's nearer to Jaime's neck of the woods and incredibly uncommon among imPorts. Even if they were only talking about gang activity, it gave them some common ground to stand on. Overall, he seems like a pretty stand-up guy, and Jaime has a lot of sympathy for what seems to be a really nice, normal guy wrapped up in all of MOM's craziness -- including his store being looted, those fiends. Jaime actually really likes spending time with normal people and even if he's not actually normal, he feels a certain sort of solidarity with them, and he'd certainly like chatting with him a little more.

Toss in the fact that he's going to go do some good work at Xavier's and the fact that he's into science (Jaime is not a genius like half his cr but hot damn does he love him some science), and he's got a great impression. A+, Walt!

NOT A CHANCE nobody's gettin skipped!

ANYWAY, Jaime, strangely enough, likes Klarion. He's an odd little soul, but an extremely genuine one. He has absolutely no reason to believe that anything that comes out of the guy's mouth is a lie, and something about that easy confidence is actually kind of endearing. He's stuck in his ways, sure, and probably a little too reliant on magic (and on Teekl, but from one guy with a constant companion to another, he totally understands), but whatever, he's cool. He knows how to get some enjoyment out of his new home, doesn't scrimp on wonder over the simple things, and is pretty darn easy to get along with. He doesn't know him too well, but that doesn't stop him from enjoying their conversations, no matter how infrequent they are; some as sure as Klarion combined with someone as easygoing as Jaime is actually a pretty killer combo, as it turns out.

...too bad Jaime doesn't know that Klarion's got a criminal streak to him. WHOOPS.

For Ellie and Traci
khajidont: (Default)

[personal profile] khajidont 2015-06-11 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
OKAY let's start with Ellie first!

Jaime adores Ellie. That much has been consistent from the beginning, and it's not likely to change, not without damn good reason. I'll probably outline that in my next blurb, but I think it's starting to become rapidly clear to him how not okay she is. He's already known that she's a troubled soul -- there's a certain kind of sadness to her that's perfectly understandable, given what he knows about her past; she's lost her eye, lost her family and friends and entire life to a scourge that she can't see any end to. He's always known all that, but having her talk about leaving Isaac behind to fight alone and seeing into her dreams really makes it clear just how much the events of the past haunt her, and how the knowledge of what she has waiting for her in the future continues to haunt her. He doesn't agree with what she'd been planning to do, or how protective she seems to be over Isaac when they're supposed to be taking care of each other - which he's made pretty clear - but he can't say he doesn't understand it.

So yeah, he worries, but he doesn't know how to help. She's already told him so much more than he'd expect her to tell someone she sees as a kid, and he's starting to figure out how limited he is when it comes to helping with his friends' mental health. Which isn't to say he doesn't try, but gosh!!! HOW DO YOU HELP PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE PROBLEMS???? It's not like he can tell her not to be so worried about all the things she's worried about because it only makes sense. As it turns out, rational fears are a little harder to deal with, so while he'll be giving it thought, his focus will be on being there for her, and trying to make her happy in the here and now, as much as he's able.

As for things that have nothing to do with poor Ellie's many, many issues? He adores her. He thinks she has a real appreciation for life that Jaime's never had (he's spoiled for the nice, everyday things that she can't take for granted), and when he's with her, it's like he can look through her eyes for a second. Even after so much, she's still a kind, good, gentle soul to him, and Jaime really treasures that. She also treats him like he's... as old as he is, which is kind of foreign to him after all this time, but there's an embarrassed part of him that kind of likes it. He's used to having his family around to fuss, and the fact that there's someone that will, even if he doesn't need it, is kind of nice. He really enjoys her company, and she's easily one of his favourite people.

He just worries, that's all.
