This is less about the fairness principle of the card, and more about the need for decisions and responsibility, and accepting the consequences of your actions. Gansey thinks Hermann is clever, but single-minded, and that he's bearing a lot on his shoulders where Newt is concerned without looking to others for help. This is a good thing if it works, but a bad thing if it doesn't. Gansey hopes the consequences he'll have to face are not bad, but he's worried they will be.
