01. The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place, where locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city. Some of the locals might thank you for always lending your service to the nation and others might not say anything. In fact, some people might back away from any imPort who quite obviously looks like they aren't from around the neighborhood. Once in a while there's a look of disdain on someone's face and hushed voices. An upset voice wonders aloud: "More of them, when we already know they can't protect us? That's just painting a bigger target on the city's back!" However, they're quickly hushed with a judgmental: "They helped save the cities, and it's the Soviets you should be angry with anyway! The imPorts are here to protect us!"

02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, and though it's quieter, there are just as many citizens awed at your presence. Many people are out and about taking care of their regular business, but that doesn't distract them from crowding you in excitement if you're obviously from a different time or world, or just let it slip that you're a newcomer. Children and young teenagers are especially likely to ask for an autograph and a photo.

Some locals seem less enthused to see you. They never make an approach, but they can be overheard scoffing and muttering something about spies. "How can we trust any of them now?"

03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania, is not as friendly and its citizens tend to go out of their way to avoid walking down the same sidewalk as the more obvious looking imPorts pass through. Local cops say nothing, but they scowl at those imPorts and mutter under their breaths resentfully about "vigilantes". However, not all locals turn the other way seeing imPorts; some of them will offer a polite enough smile and thank them for their help in overthrowing the trespassers. They don't stop to clarify what they mean, though.

04. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities; loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. Anyone who they come to determine an imPort is bombarded with all sorts of offers; job offers, advertising gigs, spokesperson for advocating children stay in school, etc. Anything and everything! You name it. Shops offer discounts for food and clothing, whatever they need. Advertisements are abound for imPorts to make appearances at various, televised celebrations, luring them in with promises of free food, merchandise, and payment.

[At first, Osomatsu looks uninterested like he had started to filter out Karamatsu's words and think about something else. But then he hears the magic words "you would have more women than you knew what to do with", and he starts imagining himself in a cool super hero outfit with girls swooning over him and... yeah, he has a big grin spreading on his face again.]

You had me at "girls", Karamatsu. [He leans towards his brother, his eyes wide with excitement.]

But if we're gonna do this hero thing and get the recognition of all the girls in the city, we're gonna need really cool super hero names and outfits!

[He goes silent as he thinks for a second.]

...should we pull out the Unused Brothers again?

[Roy chills.

For like 15 seconds before he starts thinking Hughes might not be real again. His hands curl against the table and he lasts another 15 seconds before he speaks.]

Maes...?

[ I see absolutely no reason why that would be true. ]

Of course he does! There's no way he'd get left behind!

[burningbothends]

Calm down. I don't know the details, but Alphonse was fine; he was able to help in the fight against Father.

[fullmetalbrat]

[All of this sounds fake but okay.]

Okay . . . Okay. He was really there? It was— I-It had to be him if he was fighting with us . . .

[fullmetalbrat]

Yeah . . . We just— We have to find him.

[burningbothends]

It was Alphonse. You were able to see him back in his own flesh and blood body after the battle, Fullmetal.

[burningbothends]

[Roy is just going to very carefully follow her lugging this half-metal brat.]

[fullmetalbrat]

[This is really way too much to take in. Way too much to even begin to believe. He'd done it? In the middle of some insane right? How? What had the catch been? Could he even actually trust anything Roy was saying?

He slumps in his seat again, bowing his head and clasping his hands behind it while he takes a few deep breaths.]




It's not real until I've done it with my own hands.

[burningbothends]

[Roy steps forward until he can bump his hand against Ed, groping until he finds his shoulder and squeezes.]

I know. ... Don't let this place distract you from what's important. I will absolutely make sure you are returned to Amestris to see your goals through.

[deaddy]

Yeah, Roy?

[The tone of someone who's apparently puzzling at something, a bit distracted but still present and listening, evidently.]

[burningbothends]

["Roy".]

... You're really here, right? I'm not dreaming?

[fullmetalbrat]

[The only thing that keeps him from being tense under Roy's hands are the sedatives still lingering in his system. He draws in a deep, shuddering breath and nods, only speaking up a few moments later when he remembers Roy can't see that.]

I won't let us be trapped here either.

[deaddy]

Need me to pinch you?

You're not going any crazier than you already were, Roy. It's literally everything else going crazier.

[burningbothends]

... I wouldn't say no to a pinch.

[burningbothends]

[Roy squeezes his shoulder a little harder.]

We both have more important things to do back home.

[deaddy]

[He casually reaches over and pinches Roy. Hard.]

[ It still feels unfair to be scrutinizing a blind man, but truthfully, Gregor has always been remarkably astute on picking up on signals from those around him, so he consoles himself with the fact that it's not much of a difference. He misses anything suspicious about Roy's checking-over of Edward, distracted with considering the larger circumstance of their arrival and what he knows so far.

Watching these slow signs of anger prompts him to interrupt. ]

If it's urgent, I could have a healer here immediately, [ he says quietly. ]

[vorbarra]

[ Good enough. ]

Ah. That would be distressing. I've been assured that time at home is not passing for us, and in fact if we are Ported home, we will forget everything that occurred here. So there's really no consequences to being here, apart from what happens here.

[ Not that Gregor is content to leave that state of affairs as it is, but that's how the situation presently stands. ]

[fullmetalbrat]

[burningbothends]

[Hnng. Focus. Roy straightens, scrubs at his face briefly.]

I'm mostly worried they gave him too much... His vitals are good. I don't think he's in any danger, but I'd like a second opinion.

[deaddy]

Depends. How do you like being stuck in the middle of a global crisis and the possibility of new powers aside from alchemy?

[burningbothends]

... Yes. I have a lead on that. I'll need your help.

[fullmetalbrat]

So . . . if what you're saying is true, whoever's running this show gets to make themselves super soldiers without any lasting consequences? Convenient.

[It really sounded like some kind of ideal dream for a shady government as far as Ed was concerned.]

And how the hell do you know what people who go home do or don't remember?

[deaddy]

[CLEARLY NEED TO AVOID GETTING SHOT MORE OFTEN. That said, dutifully patting her back and other such comforting gestures, even as the apologies really punch him in the heart.]

There's nothing to apologize for, you know.
