Right off, Cole reminded Isaac a bit of himself as a boy (which was a long time ago, but saying that is rude). He has a deep understanding of the boy's situation, being another person who isn't insane but a lot of people think the opposite, and he wants to be someone Cole can turn to if he feels he needs someone to talk to who's not going to judge him.

He's also willing to help him if anymore ghosts come knocking, even though detective work isn't really his strong suit. For some reason he just feels protective of the boy.
