TEST DRIVE MEME

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Fine line indeed. Intent may be the biggest variable -- but to what nefarious end might the good Dr. Lahiri use that charm, do you fear?

[ He tilts his head to consider that. ]

[ With how quickly he turns around, she's tempted to take a step back. The noise the metal makes makes her brows furrow lightly, because it doesn't sound all that great, even if it's for a split second. The fact that she's not really perplexed by his outfit is, well, because she's seen plenty of people in even more absurd outfits for different reasons. So while she isn't interested in his clothes all too much, its his face that draws attention.

She stands taller, perhaps to make up for her height, when he first looks at her. W-What's up with that kind of face?! She would look offended, herself, if not for the fact she makes it a point to act as such only in private. She still has a reputation, and more importantly, a name to uphold.. Even if she feels vaguely offended herself, and a little nervous at his scrutinizing.

After a few moments, she becomes embarrassed at his stare— even irritated. She looks fine, doesn't she? Even she knows that kind of stare isn't normal.. Then there's no real need to go to this extent! She nearly fumbles out a 'what' before he suddenly asks her his question, and she quiets her worrying. ]

Tohsaka Rin.

[ Betraying her thoughts, Rin looks completely natural even in a situation like this. She flips her hair off her shoulder before offering a handshake. Honestly, if he wants to waste time chit chatting, that's on him. ]

And you are?

[ Are you sure about that, Mindy? He may look a bit like Eddie Izzard, but-- ]

True that movies can fill a silence when conversation may be absent. Yes, I do have a television, although I can't yet attest to its working -- haven't had much opportunity to turn it on. Call me old-fashioned, Dr. Lahiri, but I did always prefer good company to reruns.

Man, it totally sounds like bragging. But really, despite all his sneaking and snooping, its easy for Shinjiro to form some quick opinions on the guy: Proud, nosey, likely thinks all his infomation is way more useful than it is.

So, like Jin, pretty much.

Another shrug, and he gestures to the opposite side of the worn table, as though inviting Inumuta to sit across from him. "If I had 'em back home, then I woulda had a real answer for you earlier." It's as dry as ever, but less distancing than before. "I'm going off the notes they handed me on it when I showed up." Which was weird in and of itself- That the government had known all about his newfound powers even before he'd awaken here.

"So what's the weirdest power you've got on your list?"

[ah, well. she hopes that won't be true, otherwise she's in trouble.]

That's no fun. What's the point of that if there's no one around to know you're gone?

[ Reiner is dressed less conspicuously than Eren, but only just -- he also has on Maneuvering Gear, but accompanied by only a simple shirt and pants. Eren draws the eye quite easily, which is a jarring contrast from how he's normally kept so meticulously hidden.

It's different here, obviously -- for Eren and for Reiner, because without Bertholdt here or any other clear mental anchor to his mission, Reiner is uncertain how to proceed. Uncertain about a lot of things. It stalls and stresses at his mind the more he stares at Eren until his thoughts and expression smoothly shift gears.

He smiles, waving. ]

Oh, Eren! [ He moves his way through the crowd toward Eren, delayed by his own disinclination to simply shove his way past the people and waiting instead for them to offer room for him to pass. ] What a relief to have a few familiar faces around, isn't it?

You'l find that this is a world quite different than the one we left behind.

[Erwin said, letting go as soon as Reiner was on his feet and seemed as if he could stand just fine on his own. There are still some onlookers but Erwin's gaze never wavers.

It makes things easier that the other isn't injured at the very least.]

We are not alone here, Levi is present as well. It seems the powers that be have a fondness for those of the Survey Corps.

This many Survey Corps and not a titan in sight, huh...?

[ Haha. Wrong.

He looks around with the same kind of awe he'd watched the cars with, allowing himself a little more freedom to look mildly impressed at just how different it all was. Reiner couldn't necessarily call that good or bad, but it sure was neat to see. ]

It almost sounds too good to be true. What do you all do with your 3D gear?

[that goes unanswered on his end, because he hears the truth underneath it. not that he needed to ask, anyone would know - but that's what a time machine's for doesn't change the fact that the time will be missed, that her life will be shorter once she returns to it.

there's nothing to be done. there's nothing to be done, and so up starts the whir of the sonic again...]

—Ow!

[right up until he accidentally sonics a bolt loose and there's a little bit of hovercar smacking him in the face. cue one suddenly grumpy Timelord pulling himself abruptly out from under the car, face covered in oily mess and pouting like a slighted preteen.

Doctor nothing, just the Doctor. And I'm going to go ahead and put your ailing fashion sense down to a bump on the head.

[ The smile gives her every bit of information she's lacking. They're okay and in this new "home" away from home, it's all Natasha needs. ]

[ To save him the trouble of having to explain how things worked to her and to give pause to any warnings. Those were unnecessary when the pair have so much more they could talk about.

Closing the distance only to test the waters with a hand reaching for his left arm, Natasha's posture doesn't waiver. Not now when action is everything.

There's so much to say, but they've always been like this with each other. A silent understanding of what was on the others' mind. ]

For the truth? [ Heh. ]

[ Delightful. It's endearing in a way, but she's not going to say that out loud. ]

In this country and certain others, hunting wildlife requires a license as well as a certain time of the year when they flourish. Usually it's done to cull the population so that they don't start to encroach city limits.

[ A brief pause to consider how to explain it in a way a "non-organic" can understand. ]

It's a fresher and sharper spiciness compared to other spice foods.

Take it from someone with a bit of experience. Start with something a lot more tame until you're certain your new organic tongue can handle it.

I see. It sounds like you're well versed with something like this, but I can't blame you for wanting to take a hands-on approach. [ The appearance certainly gives a different impression. She peers over the shoulder of the other.

When the other turns to look at her, Rin straightens herself. ]

So what is it you plan on doing, then?

[Now that is a sight she can't stop herself from laughing at. It's certainly good enough top keep her from thinking about subjects she doesn't want to think about just yet.]

That's a good look for you.

[Honestly, he was worse than Argue and Annie sometimes.]

[ As to what question she's answering, Natasha doesn't specify. After all, the answer is the same either way. ]

'least we're in good company.

[ Meaning there's a good chance any time he talks to someone else, they will feel the same way. Suddenly ripped from their homes and deposited in a completely different world. Not a kind experience. ]

How are you holding up?

[If only Erwin knew.]

We adapt here, including adapting our gear to what is needed and what is available to us.

[A vague answer but that will have to do at the moment as Erwin leads the way down the street so they can get away from the onlookers gawking.]

It does seem too good to be true, isn't it? No Titans but do you think this world is devoid of it's own threats?

[Even while they're walking he's watching Reiner carefully, curious.]

"Like Jin" is the most appropriate simile that will ever be used to describe Inumuta. Shinjiro can now brag he knows Inumuta better than anyone else in Heropa simply by the fact he knows of Jin.

He's never been invited to sit with the person he's being nosy at though so. This is kind of new. But he takes the seat anyway, although never letting go of his tablet. "May I see those notes?" Note how he's actually... asking this time, rather than just being rude and demanding to be told. Maybe he's being a little less distant, too. "I might be able to interpret it better, after everything I've seen so far."

"As for the weirdest power... I would think it is my teammates ability. He's typically taller than me, but for the first time since I've known him, I saw him smaller than I am. It was startling." Seriously, a mouse-sized Gamagori. It was weird.

Adapt. Right... [ His expression grows slightly more serious. ] Whatever this place is, I wouldn't expect we'd get so lucky to just get dropped into some far off lap of luxury. And it sure as hell can't be heaven.

[ Because he's here, or because Bertholdt isn't here with him? He doesn't elaborate on what he means, going quiet and staring forward as he walks for a bit before he looks back over at Erwin. ]

Can any other threat really compare? I'd hate to see that... but no place will ever be completely safe, will it, Commander? Such a place probably can't exist in the world.

He pauses for a moment at the request-- though really, there doesn't seem to be any harm it in. This guy is surprisingly upfront about his motivations (if kind of a smug jackass) so, he nods, rifling through a pocket for some of the paperwork he'd folded up and shoved in there.

He takes a moment to yank the page off its staple (away from some of the more personal information) and hands it over easily. Again- powers aren't rare here, and his are nothing that the other man hadn't already seen, or couldn't be easily identified.

"...It says I should be able to like-- un-rot the thing, but like hell I know how to do that." Another prod at the overtly-sweet-scented fruit withered and mushed on the table-- and he's sure able to make it deteriorate more with those light prods, but it sure doesn't seem to be getting any better.

But the comment about the guy's teammate (And the word there, implying Inumuta had allies, or perhaps friends--) causes a short, rough, and not entirely earnest laugh. "What, he can shrink?"

[Wakka snaps out of it, glancing over at the man beside him. Pull it together, Wakka]

This is... normal here, ya?

Wh- [Wakka heard the voice of a young girl... Oh. Man. This is bad, isn't it? A little girl is worried about him. He looked up quickly]

I'm.. yeah! Doin' fine!

[Cue the almost too quick nervous laugh before he comes clean, deflating quickly, his head hanging low.]

No. I'm... Not okay.

[Cy's expression turns into a thoughtful frown for a moment before he gives a slow, little nod.]

Seems to be, yeah.

[He lets out a small breath]

Gotta try and remember that not all of these things are bad... kinda overwhelming to see so much of it, well... everywhere.

[Not to mention the lack of concern over it]
