TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[He shrugs.]
But this...[Lifting his right arm to show her the device on his forearm.] this is new. It controls the concentration of life fibers in my uniform.

[Her voice is sharper than intended, and she reins herself in with a bite to the inside of her cheek, staring at Sanageyama intently.
Having his Blade Regalia back was one thing- having it be capable of essentially becoming a Kamui...
That was dangerous.]
Sanageyama.
[She turns back to him, taking the arm he's presented her with by the wrist, slender fingers wrapped vice-tight around it.]
You know you can't...
[Can't turn it up all the way. The words 'bad idea' do not even begin to cover it.]
no subject
He understands they're all just concerned, but this is the third or fourth time he's had to listen to someone react like this. It's starting to feel a bit insulting, as if they all think he's going to just do it on a whim to see what happens. He's not that stupid.]
Lady Satsuki. [Yeah that's just a tinge of annoyance in his voice. If it was anyone else, it'd be far more than just that.] You're not the first person to say this.
And with all due respect, I'm not as stupid as you all seem to think I am. I know what'll happen - I'm not going to use this without caution.
To be honest, I thought you of all people might have shown me a bit more faith than the others.
[He gives his arm a very slight pull, but only enough to draw attention to his wrist. He doesn't make any attempt to pull it free himself.]
Now please, let go.
no subject
I don't think you're stupid.
[She doesn't. She thinks he's a lot of things- impulsive, a bit reckless, temperamental- but stupid isn't among them.]
But I do think those life fibers are dangerous. However...
[Her fingers slip free of his wrist and she turns away, shoulders lowering slightly as she sighs.]
My apologies, Uzu. You are correct- I should have more faith in you.
no subject
Great, now he feels bad about making her feel bad. As stupid as it is, it wasn't really his intention, he was just. Annoyed. He hadn't considered this while he let his emotions do the talking for a minute there.]
It's- [Rubbing at the back of his neck, a little sheepishly.] It's fine. I know you're all just concerned for me.
And I...appreciate that, really.
no subject
[She doesn't feel bad, exactly- but she does think he has a point. Sanageyama is one of her Devas for a reason, and he's more than shown his resolve to her by now.
She feels as if she should trust that much, at least.]
I trust you will not fail, Sanageyama.
[And she very decisively steps into a dressing room after that, shutting the door behind her.]
no subject
Well, it was good to hear at least. The others accepted it too but Satsuki was the only one who
appealed to his fragile monkey egosaid she trusted him not to mess up. He's satisfied with that.So he leans against a wall nearby, waiting until she's done.]
no subject
[Satsuki's voice sounds out over the sound of rustling fabric as she changes, trying to figure ou which of the clothes she picked out will work best together.]
When I am finished here, I presume we will be going to meet the others?
no subject
[He calls out in reply.]
I'll bring you by the house if you'd like, everyone should be there.
no subject
[Another slight rustle, and a thoughtful 'hmm' before it's obvious one piece of clothing is being substituted for another.]
I wish to speak with them all as soon as I am able.
no subject
About that...I've been meaning to ask, before you came here, what was happening back home?
no subject
But it's definitely better than the sweats, at least.]
Back... ah. Ryuko had returned from dealing with Ragyo...
[A slightly pensive look crosses her face, and she quirks a brow because of the question.]
Why?
no subject
[Compared to some others. It could've been a lot worse if she showed up way earlier than that.]
It's just that sometimes people show up here...further back in time. Or ahead.
I know it sounds strange, but Inumuta was only just participating in the Naturals Election before he arrived, and Matoi only just pulled Junketsu off of herself. She had no idea she defeated the director.
no subject
[She picks at her shirt slightly, thinking it could fit better, and blinks in surprise when, with a ripple of fabric, it very suddenly does.
Well. That's handy, isn't it?
But her attention goes to Sanageyama again at the last bit, eyes narrowing.]
That could be... quite inconvenient in some cases, couldn't it?
1/2
Did you do that just now?
[Onto the topic at hand, though...]
It was, but we've...brought everyone up to date, at least. Gamagori and I filled Inumuta in on everything.
no subject
And...Senketsu told Matoi everything.
[As in everything. Should be obvious what he means.]
no subject
[If nothing else, she seems a bit intent on the fabric of her shirt, looking thoughtful again.
The mention of Senketsu gets her looking at him again, and she lets out a sigh. She can almost feel how that turned out.]
I presume it did not go well?
no subject
[He shrugs.]
Nobody got hurt, nothing got wrecked. She just ran away for a little while.
I'd call that a victory.
no subject
[She moves to make her way toward the registers, intending to pay for what she isn't wearing as well as what she is.]
But she came back, and that is what's important.
no subject
[He'd know, being one too.]
By the way, since you just got here I can pay for these [Gesturing to her clothing.] if you'd like. It's no trouble.
[Although it actually would be, considering his financial situation.
PLEASE SAY NO.
But he figures he should offer anyway, because he is a subordinate and that is just the kind of thing he feels he should do.]
no subject
[Said with a certain offhand tone that probably speaks volumes to him.]
But no, it's alright. I can manage this much myself.
[Besides, you're paying for the damage her sister at least partially caused, she can't take more of your money dude.]
no subject
Uh.
Whoops.]
Uh, sorry. I didn't mean anything by it.
[BUT DAMN, THE RELIEF. He isn't even sure if he could cover this if he had to.]
Alright, we can leave once you're finished up here, then.
no subject
Don't worry. If I were angry, you would know.
[And he certainly would, likely because there would be pain involved.
She nods in confirmation and- after twisting around to let the cashier get the tags still attached to the clothes she was wearing and then the ones in her hand and paying, she makes her way back to Sanagetama's side, a bag in hand, pushing some of her hair off her shoulders.]
Shall we?
