okay for real this time

Poe fucked up. Poe fucked up real bad.

It was just supposed to be a few minute's amusement. Troll a fresh shiny stormtrooper, laugh a lot, go home. And sure, it was really fun for a few minutes, but Poe's an individualist at heart. Where others see clones or brainwashed troopers or mindless droids, Poe really only sees people - and as soon as he gets to know those people, he tends to like them. And he ended up really liking 622. He kept telling himself it was a joke, but midway through it became a mission: if everyone got to live a life, here, apart from the war, there was no reason a stormtrooper couldn't either. And if befriending him kept him out of the clutches of a maniac like Hux, then no harm no foul, right?

So he lied about who he was, and he made friends, and soon enough he'd come to like the man he'd nicknamed Taiko way more than he'd originally intended. The lies got a hell of a lot harder. So he twisted the truth into them, to make it easier to talk about. Avoided what would require bare faced lies and set his conscious aside. Or he tried to. But Poe was never a spy, and there were wide holes in his story, and as soon as third parties started to get involved, the fuse was set. He was given an ultimatum - tell Taiko or have Taiko told for him - and he took the option he knew he had to. Even though it cost him a man who'd been nothing but supportive of him, during one of the worst periods of his life.

He wants nothing more than to make it up to Taiko, somehow - to prove himself and prove his intentions despite everything, but he's pretty sure he's never going to get that chance.
