Hux has weirdly mixed feelings about Padme. On one hand, she's a Republic senator and he has a hatred for all things Republic. I mean, he kind of dedicated his life to taking down one. He has no regrets about it either. At the same time, he can admit that she is capable and he has a grudging respect for her skills.
Also, he has to give her credit for being so good with Ren. It was difficult for him to reach out to her on Ren's behalf but seeing her effect on him and how much it helped Ren, he's actually grateful to her. He's surprised that she didn't hesitate to agree to help Ren, he's sorting out how the whole family thing works but he's willing to tolerate her and extend a tentative trust to her because of Ren.
