god MAGNUS AND TAAKO... I think it's pretty safe to say that Taako is the person that Magnus feels 100% closest to. He doesn't quite realize this on his own, but if Taako were to be ported out, he'd be devastated. He built a lot of the life they've gotten for themselves around Taako - around the people he brings back, around his meals, around family nights and going out and getting blazed and/or drunk at parties together, relying on him for everything from helping take care of Tina to coping poorly with trauma to heading down to illegal fighting rings together. This is part of why, once he opens that scroll, he's going to divert from canon and actually tell Taako - it won't actually occur to him not to tell Taako because of how much they've shared in the past month. It'll seem like a perfectly natural step to take.
The fact of the matter is that when Magnus is with Taako, he's happy! They fit together really comfortably, and he can take Taako's moods in stride as though they've been friends forever. Yeah, Taako can still be prickly and rude and flippantly insulting, but Magnus is absolutely certain of Taako's inherent goodness (which he is OCCASIONALLY OFF ON) and of the fact that Taako cares for him as much as he cares about him, deep down. Is he maybe a little dependent on Taako now?? YEAH PROBABLY A LITTLE. As long as he's got a couple people on his side, he's okay, and Magnus is real glad that one of those people is (and, as far as he's concerned, will always be) Taako.
THAT BEING SAID, he's also Taako's biggest fan! It's fuckin canon that he thinks Taako is the most beautiful elf in the world (deffos not human tho, sorry taako), that he's got some incredibly rad magic and is absolutely the best cook in the world. How is he friends with someone so cool???? (The answer is that it's because Taako is also ill equipped to deal with life in general and doesn't know how to be open with his emotions and can be a little bitch, but that's okay, Magnus loves him anyway.)
tl;dr, he's ride or die. if someone ever tries to kill taako, he'll rip off their arms before taako can even start to disintegrate them.
