so... here's a thing about Hange: as a scientist and soldier, she's encountered a fair number of politicians in her world, and it's a canon thing that they are in great parts hidebound by tradition, fearful, often corrupt, and generally conservative, unwilling to support Hange's branch of the military in exploration and research. Hange has a low opinion of most politicians.
Which is why it's kind of a big deal for Hange personally that she actually, you know, LIKES Padme. She would deliberately seek Padme out to spend time with her, and would probably support Padme in future bids for office. It's a surprise to Hange but a pleasant one! She's wary of Padme on one hand, because hey, it could be just that Padme is very good at being a politician and presenting the image she does. Hange knows about presenting certain images to people. And yet she's engaged enough to actually take a chance on the younger woman, and the fact of that surprises Hange a little. It doesn't displease her though. Politicians, if Padme can be trusted, should be like Padme: eager, a little idealistic with worldliness to counteract that, clever, driven. Hange thinks they might make good partners.
