gigue: (Beethoven – Violin Concerto in D Major)

Her name cuts through the mass of noise, at least to some small extent: Vanya hears it, but she's hearing everything in the vicinity, and it's making her head ache. Her right ear throbs, constant ache turning into something more incessant while the street lights creak and twist above them.

It hurts now, she realizes. It never hurt before.

The thought makes her look up, toward the twisting metal as a light bulb shatters. Only a few people seem to care, skittering out of the way. It's a sharp jolt for Vanya, though, because looking up at the light lets her see Diego barreling toward her. All she can think of is him walking away from her, silence breathing in on her in that cell, and before she can process any of it, words appear in front of her.

She jerks and twists, closing her eyes and then opening them. The words fade eventually, and just as she thinks, what did it say? It's back. Oh, God, great, now she's probably going crazy on top of - well, maybe she already did, at the Icarus - no, she doesn't want to think about that--

And suddenly Allison is right there, hands up, and Vanya can't do anything but stare at her sister. She wants, badly, to throw her arms around the taller woman and just cling to her as an anchor, but as with almost everything else she's ever wanted, Vanya second guesses it by dropping her eyes to Allison's throat. Even without bandages, the sight of the scar there makes her insides freeze up and her tongue turn stiff and useless, so that all she can get out is a strangled word.

"What--?"
