It seems too good, too easy, too peaceful to be real--or as nice as it seems. So he prefers to escape notice, for the most part. His powers would make that even easier, but he's wary of those too, and he doesn't use them yet.
Still, he's very curious about everything, so he doesn't exactly hide himself away. Ah, these things are so neat--the machines and vehicles and lights and just about everything is fascinating to him. There's so much to learn about. So, he's not making a spectacle of himself, but he is openly gawking at things, leaning down to look at cars and running his hands over lampposts, fascinated.
Later, he runs across a bookstore with tables and carts outside, and he stops to stare at them too. Books about science and history and just about everything he can imagine... And all so accessible. And--easy to steal. He could just--take one. The need to steal is one he's lived with all his life, and it's second nature for him to snatch one up and walk a few paces. They have so many. They won't miss one.]
