[ She pauses when he mentions her being right. Knowing they looked for her... Annie won't analyze why that makes her chin tuck down toward her chest. Doesn't want to think about it. Doesn't want to think about so many things, from when she'd needed to lie every day, when she'd failed to isolate herself well enough.

You were right. About the system.

Then keep a critical eye on this one. Corruption isn't always as obvious as back home. The things you'd think to be frightened of...

[ She glances back, expression inscrutable. She's tired. Tired of reminders of the things that will never change, and the memories and burdens that she won't decry, not even after death, if death is what's coming for her before the rest. ]

There's so much more in this place than you've ever been taught to handle. Be careful what you trust.

[ And don't, under any circumstance, trust Annie. She'd say the same for the adults of the Scouting Legion here, but she doesn't know his relationship to them, or that he'd have one. Wouldn't want to point out that they fail to thrive or survive as viable people seeking to make that difference. That they isolate and remember what has been, and not enough of what might be.

Of course, only from her outside perspective, and that may or may not be right. Annie's not interested in having any closer read on the situation. She has her own pursuits and necessities driving her in this place.

I hope I was right about you, too, Marlowe. On more than the being an idiot.

[ Since that's... definitely still her opinion too whoops
