[Oh, crap. Toby doesn't really have time to think through what she's doing or how much it's going to hurt before she's diving for those skateboarding kids. Toby is no one's perfect hero, but she's never been able to let kids get hurt. Never.
She shoves the kids forcefully out of the way, sending them tumbling off their skateboards, but relatively unscathed. She isn't so lucky, though. The car slams into her, knocking her flat. She groans, watching the car sail over her and the two police cars after it. She's pretty sure that's at least a few broken ribs. Major bruising. And she's guessing she's ruined yet another pair of jeans. Just another day in the life of October Daye.
She stands up slowly, feeling her bones beginning to mend already. The kids are staring at her wide-eyed, holding their skateboards on the sidewalk. She walks towards them, doing her best not to limp.
"You ok, lady?" one of them asks.]
Yeah. [She forces a smile.] It missed me.
[The other kid leans forward, eyes wide. "Are you a superhero?"]
Please, do I look like a superhero? [The illusion that rounds her face and ears and makes her look human also covers the glowing tattoo, and she's clearly not wearing spandex. She might as well be normal, if normal women dove in front of cars then walked away from it.] Just... run along. Be more careful next time.
[As they skateboard away, she looks down at her leg. As she'd expected, her jeans are shredded and coated with drying blood, though her leg's already healed. Great. She'd just got them broken in, too.]
