He hated thinking about this. Any time he thought he'd put it all together in a way that made sense, he'd remember some detail he'd suppressed. It was true the Jedi had hidden what they knew about the chips. They'd admitted it. But the only time they knew the chips had been used was by the Republic, right at the end of it. And he'd been made with one too, and he was part of a batch from years after the Jedi had been driven out. It was a thought he didn't want to touch. It was probably something retained for High Command, he'd decided. Or the Emperor himself. A weapon of the enemy, subverted and retained as insurance.
