She doesn’t particularly care herself—it’s not as though she had a well of friends to choose from herself. Hell, she actively kept people at arms length. Honestly, was it better or worse to be around a ton of people who thought you were nice and liked the idea of you more than the real you, or to be stoic and not actively seek it out to begin with and let people avoid you that way? She’d always felt a sense of ‘otherness’ that kept her apart from others, and there had always been a layer of disgust for humanity in general that kept her from wanting to get close to anyone.
She can’t imagine it’s the same for him, exactly, but there has to be something.
“Because—“ And then Miu pauses, because she’s not sure how to really explain it, her brow furrows a little and she looks down at the table, tapping her short nails against the surface. Needling at the sore spots of someone’s psyche and trying to wiggle out The Who’s and whys of what made them tick was fine for her, but she wasn’t particularly fond of when her own motives were questioned. Often she found she didn’t have a good enough answer waiting in the wings— she was just bored herself and maybe through other people’s answers she could find some of her own.

And most people want companionship. Humans are social creatures by nature. We need others. So if you act like this and people leave you alone, wouldn’t you get bored not having people to talk to or connect to? When no one understands you, it’s...” Miu trails off, pausing in her tapping as she looks away, scanning the restaurant with a dull look in her eyes, as if she’s judged the entire place and found it lacking. “Maybe boring wasn’t really the right word...”
