[ Momo can tell her friend is struggling with this, and she understands. It's a lot to reckon with. And the fact that no, there isn't really a reason for it, certainly doesn't help matters. I'm afraid there isn't much more to it than that. The Porter chooses people-- seemingly at random, though there are some patterns you can see if you look closely. It decides who to bring, and when, and who to send home, and when. Sometimes it brings people back, and sometimes they remember... But sometimes they don't.
