Anyway, friendship's a very weird thing, Annie. I mean if you told the me from three years ago I'd be friends with someone like him, I'd probably laugh.

But now we're pretty tight.

So asking why it works isn't much good; I can just tell it does.

Course, I'm in no position to say whether or not the same applies to you, since we don't know each other that well.

I don't think I've ever met a grandma...

[ IS SHE KIDDING she may actually be serious hell if I know but she's probably met a grandpa go freaking figure

but damn she just gives another small shrug 'cause well ]

No one really does.

[ know her well, though different people are learning more and that's - interesting. Reiner knows more about her, but they're new at this whole being friends thing, and it's... predictably... rocky. Actually. Will. Graham. And Kanaya might have the best guesses... and for all the sad reasons. #recognizing trauma ]

My father would say it's a failure on my part to remember what he's told me, for whatever that's worth.

They're just your mother's mother. Or dad's mother. A few people I used to know had some pretty cool ones.

[Who even knows with his own one we have barely any canon info on his parents or brother to begin with.

Ah... Considering my father's parting advice to me was treat the world as your enemy, and when they all hate you, know I'll still be on your side?

But considering the parents of everyone he knows he's starting to wonder how any of these people had kids. Or why for that matter.

Of course Annie's world in general sounds worse, but. Still. All these shitty parents.]

grandmannie is a shrugasaurus today on the other hand whoops ]

It is. But it's easier to be lonely than to justify how you can be friends with these people that you're going to hurt so badly in the future, even if they live, even if you're not the one responsible for them dying. I couldn't do it.

[ listening to her father was easier, and her own goal, different from the rest, had meant a very exclusionary existence. no one was going to want to know annie leonhart in that future, except to want her dead. probably. who knows. she's crystal these days, we don't have to worry about it! ]

Or at least I tried very hard not to make painful connections.
