TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.
Gwen Stacy | Spider-Woman | Marvel-TRN448 (even though i can't app her yet /sob)
[It's weird to be leaving one area only to suddenly find herself somewhere entirely alien. It's disorientating and actually leaves her dizzy, a feat that's hard to accomplish all things considered. She's just thankful she'd already changed out of her costume before this happened. She can play the confused, lost girl that she truly is. Only it turns out these guys know who she is. How?
She wants them to answer questions but they rush her out after giving the briefest of explanations along with a folder. She was going to have to burn this, if anyone else got their hands on it could be a mess for her. At first she still thinks she's back on her Earth but once she grows used to the sun outside she realizes how wrong she is.]
Whoa. [Hover cars? That's certainly not a thing back home. She slips off her pack and shoves the folder in, for now it'd be safest there.]
Do I get to drive one of those? [She's speaking out loud, to no one in particular. But seriously, hover car! That's just cool.]
[ 04-ish. (as Spider-Woman) ]
[She's long since settled in and decided that Florida wasn't her scene. She needed taller buildings so, for the moment, she was calling De Chima home. It was a quiet city but she still found stuff to do while out on patrol.
She decided she didn't want to make the same mistake as back home, making her presence so well known that the popularity went to her head. She knew where that road would lead and didn't want to repeat it. It didn't matter if heroes were seen as celebrities here, she wanted to avoid that kind of attention if at all possible. Although, it was all very tempting. Registered but low key probably the best way to go.
She'd taken up a spot on the side of a building, watching a few kids play when the sound of sirens and a revving engine. From her perch she could see it perfectly and it was definitely all headed toward her. Quickly jumping into action she dropped to the street and began fashioning a large web to catch the car before turning to get the kids out of the way, just in case the webbing doesn't hold for whatever reason.]
[ WILDCARD. ]
[Throw whatever at me.]

[ she had been on her way to grab a bite to eat; there's a thai place down the block that is so delicious that steph is half convinced that whatever they put in the food is illegal. she is willing to let them slide.
when she runs into the fellow blonde, it doesn't take too long for her to figure out why the other looks so amazed. newbie, probably. that or she just never goes outside. ]
Actually, I have no idea how much they cost. I'm too scared to find out because I might cry afterward.

[She watches another car pass before turning her attention to the other blonde.]
I understand, really. Perks to living in a big city included not really needing a car, hover or otherwise. [Also web-slinging all over the city just plain makes it easier to deal with in general. No traffic, no public trasport, it's all great until the cops decide to start shooting or some crime pops up.]
no subject
They're still pretty cool though. Anyway, I'm totally assuming right now, but are you new?
no subject
Fresh off the...transporter. That's a little weird to say and even believe as reality.

01
What exactly are they?
[She gestures to the hover car that sparked her comment about driving one.]
no subject
They're hover cars. [She says this like the other person should know that but then realizes they might not even know what a car is, if going by how they dress was any indication.] They're vehicles, only they don't need wheels or anything to get going. I do wonder what makes them run...
no subject
[They still use horses where she comes from, so.]
Perhaps they operate on some form of pyromancy? I'm a stranger to the art, but word has it that some of the more talented casters are capable of magnificent things...
[...she'll catch on eventually.]
no subject
Yeah, they don't run on any kind of, er, magic. I'm pretty sure of that.
sorry i'm not sorry about this
[ The hooded weirdo is just shaking his head, chuckling, and honestly not freaking (or geeking) out enough about the hovercars and the... everything else. Which might in fact be the weirdest part about him. And, considering how he's dressed, that's saying a lot. ]
"A clone in my- our- someone's costume. That's new. Guess Jackal's getting bored."
im assuming this is some wildcard?
I'm sorry, was any of that English?
yes! sorry i forgot to label it!
[ Even under the blindingly bright red mask, you can see him raise an eyebrow. ]
I'd like to believe you, disturbingly familiar looking lady, but... sorry if this sounds — okay, sorry this is paranoid, but I've been burned by too many people who look like.
Well.
You.

04-ish
Standing on a wall there is a seriously pissed off Spider-Woman, hands on her hips as she stares at this white knock-off.
Is she ever getting a break? ]
You gotta be kidding me.
no subject
Y'know, this one's all yours. Take all the credit. I don't mind. [She does mind but sticking around for the cops and getting attention garnered on her isn't something she wants to do. Well, that's a lie, she loves the attention but after what happened back home it's better she just stick to the shadows. Maybe she should make her costume darker to reflect that? No, wandering thoughts, back in the bag.
It's about this time that the speeding car hits the web she'd put up. That was her cue to leave so she's just going to shoot a line out of here.]
Oh. Look. Another Spider.
Either way, she's here now, so she better make the best of it.
Which means being a responsible superhero.
She's swinging when her spider-sense kicks in, and she heads in the direction of the danger- revealing a speeding car, two police cruisers right behind it, someone in costume pulling some kids out of the way and a giant web in between the car and rescue?
It's a surprise, but not enough of one to stop her from swinging down to pitch in. She lands against the side of a building and when the police cruisers rush by, she quickly attaches webbing to both and then against the building to prevent them from crashing into the now stopped car or into anything else.
After she's sure nothing needs further reinforcement, she flips down onto the ground- landing near the hooded web wearing figure.]
Hope you didn't mind having some help. Nice webbing, by the way.
Spider-Gwen brings all the spiders out of the woodwork
[The driver appeared to be unconscious after hitting the web and now the kids were heading toward the two (since the danger appeared to be over). Hope you weren't going to protest, May, because Gwen's already shooting a line to get out of there seeing as the cops are already heading toward the car caught in the web.]
[wildcard]
A half-second later, sense reasserts itself. It's Gwen, ported back in again. Or for the first time? She's not his Gwen Stacy, he can tell that immediately. She's about the right age (so much younger than they'd thought of themselves at the time) but the way she carriers herself is entirely different, and the Gwen he'd loved and lost wouldn't dress that casually to go to the supermarket.
The Gwen who'd been his little sister, though, the one from the universe where he'd died and Miles had taken over -- yes, it could be her. A couple of years older, the punk rock look taken down a couple of notches... fumbling in his wallet, he takes out a 20 and slaps it on the counter without looking, leaving his sandwich behind as he runs after her.]
Gwen, is that you? Hey, Gwen--!
no subject
But then the question of "Is that you" along with the strangely familiar voice makes her pause. Maybe it is someone who knows her. But who?
She's gets the answer soon enough as she turns to look back in the direction of the voice. The drink in her hand nearly falls (only saved by the same ability that lets her cling to walls) as she feels like a sledgehammer has been taken to her chest. For a moment she can't breath and she's certain her heart has stopped.
It can't be who she thinks it is. Older but he looks so much like him.
After what seems like an eternity she swallows and remembers to breath.]
P-Peter?
hope it's not too late for more feels
But he's lived through this before, which means he's the one best placed to get this started.]
Hey. Let me guess, you weren't expecting to see me again any time soon.

You have fun. I have enough trouble keeping cars in one piece when they're fully grounded.
[Which isn't entirely her fault. Toby's a great driver. It's all the things that keep coming after her that make her take stupid driving risks.]
no subject
I wonder if my license is even valid here?
no subject
[She looks up at the flying car again and grimaces.]
I hope not. No offense to your driving skills. I just doubt driving a flying car is exactly the same as driving a real one. I'd want them to make sure the skills translated before letting anyone behind the wheel.

But he usually recognizes the other spiders. Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Scarlet Spider. Not this one. She intervenes before he can, but that's all right. Doesn't matter who does the job as long as the job gets done, right? And it proves she's definitely one of them. Somehow.
It's not like he tries to sneak up on her. He can't help that the symbiote doesn't register on spider-sense (it'd been weird to figure that out) but he doesn't actually mean her any harm. Mostly they're just curious. It's just polite to wait until she's done, and until the commotion's cleared and a convenient quiet moment presents itself. ]
So. Been webslinging long?
[ He's not actually a spider. Flash can't and won't ever claim it; it's not something he deserves, carrying the symbiote in him. But at least Venom has the spider-esque banter down cold. ]
no subject
The sudden voice near her causes her to jump (and lets face it, with the enhanced bod granted by the spider-bite she jumps several feet into the air and probably does a little flip to go with it). Her spider sense didn't go off so he must not be a threat but she still can't help that he spooked her (or the fact that he does look threatening).]
Geez! Give a gal a heart attack, why don't you? [She's not ignoring his banter she just, y'know, needs to know how he managed to sneak up on her like that.]
no subject
Whoa, hey, take it easy. [ He holds up his hands in the universal gesture of "I have no weapons in my hands and thus obviously do not intend to kill you at this moment." Although technically he wouldn't need his hands for his guns if he did. But, semantics. ] Didn't mean to sneak up on you. Just didn't want to talk anywhere near the cops.
