TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[It's not every day you see an incredibly tall and muscular man sitting down reading a newspaper in this day and age. Even less so when they have flaming hair and no discernible pupils or irises. Yet here is one right now. For those who can sense energy or power, the man in question, who just so happens to be a demon, is radiating an incredible amount of power. For those who can't, you might at least notice that he seems to be glaring down at the newspaper in his hands. Like he doesn't like what he's reading or he's having trouble reading. Which might be possible. Maybe. As strong as he is, Zetta's never been the sharpest knife in the drawer.]

Elections, democracy, votes... Why just the very thought of it all turns my stomach. How is anything supposed to get done if you do it fair and square? Obviously the strongest candidate should be the one who wins!

[So not only is he big, tall, and on fire, he's also talking to himself while reading a paper on a park bench. What a weirdo. Stranger yet is that despite his complaints, he keeps on reading. These editors really have a way with drawing you in...]

[Dana is used to giants--the giant masked army in the otherworld desert follows her as a leader. Not because she is strong, not because she is brave, but because she has survived. Because she alone of all the creatures left in that desert has not given up hope. She's not afraid of this man, reading his newspaper on a park bench.

The masked men and women aren't usually on fire, though.]

Where I'm from, elections are decided by the pulses coming from Hidden Gorge.

[In her mind, it makes just about as much sense as a popular vote. Or rule by the strongest, for that matter.]

We all still vote, of course. It's a civic duty. But it doesn't matter. Do they really decide their leaders by vote here?

[There's a brief pause as Zetta finishes the sentence he was on, before he looks up at the woman near him. He heard her, of course, those big pointy ears aren't just for show, but he...has no idea what she's talking about. Obviously there are tons of ways to express this problem, but...]

Isn't a gorge a giant hole in the ground? How the hell does that work?
