TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[ Whale wants to be anywhere but here. As the machine starts to smoke, he gets a bit more frantic, just trying to find somewhere to slink off to and pretend that he doesn't know what happened.

Amalia's comeback is enough to make him stop. ]

I don't want it to do this, [ he snips back, trying his hardest not to sulk. ]

[terraformagica]

Well how should I know! You've been standing there for an hour!

[ Of course he hasn't, not even close. Maybe a few minutes. But Amalia is making a point, so she's going to make a point. Regardless of pesky details! ]

What are you trying to get it to do?

[galvanist]

I was trying to get it to play a different song.

[ the jukebox starts to smell like burning plastic, as if it's solely out to torment Whale. ]

[terraformagica]

[ It's almost comical how quickly Amalia's expression changes from haughty to alarmed at the scent of something burning; like it's something far more ingrained than just an off-putting smell. ]

Ah, you've got to make it stop! Get some water!

[galvanist]

You don't pour water on electronic equipment! [ Even Whale knew that much. The smell of burning plastic continued as he backed away from the jukebox, two seconds away from sheer panic. ]

You make it stop! I don't know how this happened in the first place!

[terraformagica]

[ To be fair, Amalia didn't have a lot of experience with electronic equipment. Most everything in her world ran on wakfu. Not that she's about to tell him that. ][ If they weren't attracting attention before, they certainly are now. ]

[galvanist]

[ With one final noise, the machine sparked, fizzled, and then stopped smoking. It was fairly dead, though. ]

...I guess we don't have to worry about it catching on fire, then.

[ small victories. ]

[terraformagica]

[ Amalia looks simultaneously relieved and dubious, poking at the machine. ]

Maybe! You don't think we'll have to pay for this, do you...?

[galvanist]

I hope not. After all, this was an accident. God knows that I didn't mean to fry that machine.

[ that machine because it's entirely possible that Whale only has the barest minimum of knowledge about jukeboxes. thanks, magic curse. ]

[terraformagica]

[ Her expression relaxes at that, knowing very well the kind of accidents that she was usually at fault for. ]

I know you didn't and if anyone asks, I'll tell them that.
