TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Not today, but I'm sure you'll see us around, hm? See, I'm very brightly coloured and hard to miss. Next time we'll have a photograph for you.
[ The child seems to consider this, then decides it's acceptable and runs off. When they're gone, Amalia heaves a sigh of relief. ]

[Like, how are people not freaking out? Cars are weird, frightful things she's never seen before and it's pretty nerve wracking having them speed by. Plus the crowds, the technology...as sad at it is, the only thing familiar about all of this is the strange looks she's getting, except it's mostly for her outdated attire than what lies beneath that mask.
Still, she offers Amalia a bow.]

Oh, I know you didn't. My reaction was out of line as well, so I am sorry about that. It's just so strange to have people watching us all the time, isn't it? I mean, I do like it but sometimes it just gets me ahead of myself!
[ She seems delighted at the bow, and returns it with a very practiced curtsy. ]

[As for her comment about being watched...that's one way to put it.]
It's been quite some time since I've mingled amongst such large crowds of people...truth be told, I find myself feeling a little overwhelmed by it all. The unwanted attention is the only thing I find any familiarity with.
[Because where she was before, covering her face made it obvious she was hiding the decaying parts of her face beneath it.
At least here nobody seems to notice. She's thankful for it.]

[Still, it's nice to see someone react positively. Her brother was the famous one after all, so recognition is a luxury she doesn't often get, but enjoys more than she lets on.]

[ There's a quiet park nearby that Amalia adores. She loves all outdoor spaces but this one has a really charming feel. ]
How did you train? What is your King like? Do you go on very many adventures? I'll bet no one tells you that you have to stay home where it's safe.

Let me see if I can remember all of that...
[So she starts talking, as they're on their way to the park.]
I'll admit, there was nothing glamorous about my training...it was difficult, often brutal, and you got no sympathy from your fellow trainees. But it made sense - if training defeated you, you weren't worthy to fight on a real battlefield. Coddling the weak wouldn't make for a good knight.
But with my sword and loyalty to my Lord, I rose above most others and had swift success, despite that.
[As for the next part, she shakes her head.]
My homeland is surrounded by neighboring kingdoms, all of which are at war - with each other and us. The order of knights in Mirrah mainly defends the kingdom from siege. The fighting never really stops, so I hadn't much time for adventuring - although I did leave home just before I arrived here, in search of my brother in a foreign land, if that counts.
As for the King, he--

[She stops walking suddenly, bowing her head and placing both hands on either side of it.
What was the king like? What kind of man was he?...what did he even look like? ...she can't remember. Why can't she remember?
It's frustrating to have this gap here where it shouldn't be, so she groans out of frustration, holding her head.]

[But it is a big deal. She'd been experiencing these lapses in memory in Drangleic as well, hoping it would cease here, but...they continue.
More than anything, Lucatiel fears losing herself completely, so every time it happens it frightens her. She's even admitted to be willing to kill her friend if she thought it would prevent it.
She only hopes she can find some way to stave off the curse here, where she couldn't back home. In any case, she stands up and returns to a more normal stance, taking a step or two ahead to catch up with Amalia.]
...I'm fine. I'm sorry if I worried you. I'm sure it's just the stress at work - once my mind is more clear, I'll be sure to tell you all about the King.

[ The park is mostly empty, so they can have some privacy and Amalia looks pleased as anything, being on the grass. ]
Ah, much better! There's far too much stone and metal in this city. I should talk to someone about putting up more green space.
