TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Not much. [The words are spoken harshly, though his irritation has nothing to do with Ema. He crosses his arms, shaking his head] I'm afraid that I'm just as lost as you are, Miss-
[Wait, is that a badge in her hands? His eyes widen for a moment, and he tilts his head, looking at her in a new light]

[It's a shock to find him here, especially looking so young. Did he get botox or something? Oh well, she can't judge.]
Don't you recognize me? It's Ema Skye! [That stings, bro.] Although I guess I have grown a little since last time...

[He's heard of a Detective Skye, but he could have sworn her name was different. Did he just remember her name wrong? He clears his throat and glances to the side]
My apologies for not recognizing you, Detective, but I'm afraid that I can't remember ever meeting you properly... or at all.
[Did they ever meet? Did he just forget? He hopes not - after that courtroom disaster with Fey, the last thing he needs is the embarrassment of forgetting one of the force's best new detectives.]

[Something strange is definitely going on. Young looking Edgeworth, acting like he's never met her... No one's mentioned the time paradoxes to her yet, or she might have put the pieces together.]
no subject
I'm afraid that's impossible - I've only worked on one case, Detective.
[Well, two, if one counts Faraday's murder, but that wasn't exactly official. Either way, Skye's statement makes him uneasy. She definitely recognizes him, and he doesn't think that she's lying - no, no, her reactions are too natural, too automatic to be faked. But it's also completely, objectively, a hundred percent incorrect. What on earth is going on here?]

[She trails off, playing with a lock of hair in thought. A younger Edgeworth who doesn't remember her. Who only remembers having one case.
Could he have amnesia? Is that it?]
So you don't remember Joe Darke's trial? [If he's forgotten all the way back to his first trial...]
no subject
No, I don't. I assume that was one of your cases?
[Even if he doesn't remember it, she certainly does. It can't be meaningless]
no subject
[She debates her next move for a moment, and then says, very slowly because she doesn't want to startle him, especially if he does have amnesia,] Mr. Edgeworth, Joe Darke's trial was eleven years ago. I was fourteen. And if you can't remember anything after that...
[Sudden sigh of exasperation.] You're confusing me for my sister, Lana.

But... but that can't be right! That's impossi-
[He stops himself, frowning. Is it really as impossible as he thinks it is? After all, his memory was clouded and foggy when he arrived in the city. But could he have forgotten an entire decade? He doubts it, but considering all of the other impossible things he's witnessed so far... well, he should investigate further before ruling it out completely, right? He closes his eyes for a moment and takes a deep breath to steady himself]
Detective Skye...
[His voice is level, but strained, and he purses his lips for a moment before he continues]
I don't suppose you have a mirror, do you?
