aww yeah it's question meme time

Time to bring back one of my old faves...

the QUESTION meme

Simple and easy! Here's how it goes:

1. POST a top-level with your character name

2. REPLY to other people's top-level with a question for that character

3. ANSWER the question you were asked

4. ASK a question of that person's characters in return!

We go back and forth like this asking questions in a thread until one or both of us runs out of questions!

QUESTIONS CAN BE ANYTHING. Serious or silly as you want! What does Jane think of (x)? What does Sarah have for breakfast? How many times a day does Alex masturbate? What's Tom's dream job? The only limit for questions is your imagination.

Replies can be as monosyllabic or as tl;dr are you want; it's up to you. Go wild kids!

thomas' [new??] views on politics in mom versus views on politics in canon? where they cause dissonance, and where they overlap?

FFFF okay so this is a fun topic. given thomas's canon point, he actually knows very very little about what the government was in his world, aside from like basic concepts of democracy and what communism means, etc etc. he doesn't have the memory for what political state the world is in currently. so he has technical knowledge of it, but nothing in the way of first hand experience. all of that he's getting in mom, aaaaand it hasn't been that awesome as of yet.

what the maze and wicked basically taught the gladers was to not trust authority ever :'D newt and minho are both from scorch trials (idk if you're familiar with the books dkjsfdas) so they've had more experience with that, that they've filled thomas in on. it's all basically horrible, so it's really only solidified thomas's view that over arching systems like that as having the ability to keep secrets and control mass amounts of people and get away with sick things. especialyl given that he's not getting all the information he wants right the hell now (his least favorite thing), it's making him pretty uncomfy. the fact that the soldiers when he arrived said 'we're the good guys' also sounded way way too much like 'WICKED is good'. its basically like what he told steve - if you have to remind someone that you're the good guys, it probably means you're not.

so, he's grossly suspicious. in addition to that, the fact he has this tattoo now seriously freaks him out, because it seems like tagging - like you would on wildlife or livestock - and he knows there's been nanites put in his system, so he's basically furious that people have been doing more shit to him biologically without his consent, and that's focused on the military and the government right now. he's also noticed that, even the registered imports, don't get typical civilian rights, and the unregistered ones get even less, so while it's not forcing them to sign themselves over to the government's custody, basically, it is making it really difficult to get by in this world they've been brought into and are now trapped in without signing themselves over. which screams wicked's sort of sentiments to him as well. regardless of what anyone has told him about this place being okay, thomas is basically 'yeah that's great but we're prisoners, or worse, we're property'.

SO THERES MORE DISTRUST, SOB. he does think that the politics involved in how imports are treated is a load of crap, and if these people actually had any interest in their well being, they'd be taken in like an other citizen, because that is human decency. thomas often has a hard time of understanding how people can be so horrible, because he thinks of stuff like that - moral integrity, decency, giving a shit about stuff - as something that's just assumed. it's just a responsibility you have as a person to other people. so, he's pretty disgusted with what's involved with that and the fact that it doesn't seem like anything they say on the topic is going to do anything. aside from the one guy that was talking about taking complaints and stuff to the government, but thomas saw the 'why you don't want to register' part and assumed this wasn't them getting decency, this was them getting bribed - basic citizen rights for the price of servitude. also not cool in his book.

he's also annoyed that he can't build a tree house in a public park :| freakin rude

as for the war and stuff going on, he had a long talk with olivier over here where they talked about the idea of war, what it costs, and why it happens. thomas's views on it are sort of weird in that he is so so much abhorrent of the idea of wasting lives, and of death, that the thought of letting hundreds of people dying over an arguement alone (or beef with Russia on technology/weapon improvement/whatever idk) is completely sick to him. they'll be signing a treaty once all that fighting is done anyway, so why not do the nice, rational sitting down and talking it the hell out before the hundreds of people die. thomas is also really effected by loss and comes from a canon where his world starts out as 50 people, and ends up as about 20 by the time they get out of the maze. they were living on bare necessities and needed everyone there working together to survive, so that's sort of his concept of society. he's completely alright with the idea of fighting to protect yourself or people you love, or for basic things like freedom or escaping something someone DID to you, but for anything else he can't really justify it in his mind.

so, basically, a lot of thomas's views that are forming of the politics in mom now are rooted and compared to his experiences with the glade, how the gladers existed together and ran things, and how wicked used them like lab rats, pretty much. so between the lack of rights, the pressure to enlist, the limited information, the tattoo, the alterations done to him without permission, and the war, he's just a whole lot of FUCK THIS ENTIRE PLACE, I AM 5000% DONE.

i hope that was what you were looking for! ;3; thanks for the cool question!
