aww yeah it's question meme time

Time to bring back one of my old faves...

the QUESTION meme

Simple and easy! Here's how it goes:

1. POST a top-level with your character name

2. REPLY to other people's top-level with a question for that character

3. ANSWER the question you were asked

4. ASK a question of that person's characters in return!

We go back and forth like this asking questions in a thread until one or both of us runs out of questions!

QUESTIONS CAN BE ANYTHING. Serious or silly as you want! What does Jane think of (x)? What does Sarah have for breakfast? How many times a day does Alex masturbate? What's Tom's dream job? The only limit for questions is your imagination.

Replies can be as monosyllabic or as tl;dr are you want; it's up to you. Go wild kids!

Oh god, flying solo by far. He'd probably like team-ups if he ever had one that worked out well, but it doesn't even occur to him to ask a lot of his fellow capes that he's friends with in Heropa to go on anything as simple as patrol with him, because... he's never done it? He's never had a mentor, he's literally the only hero in Texas, and all his senior heroes tend to show up for an afternoon before leaving him alone. Technically he's on the Teen Titans, but they mostly just bicker (Rose sharpens her knives and Robin grinds his teeth) and he's pretty sure that the ones that don't scare him, don't actually like him. Y...YAY TEAMWORK??? IDK MAYBE THE YJ CAST CAN SHOW HIM THE LIGHT OF TEAMWORK beyond him calling wally periodically to let him know some intel/new threats except they're also constantly falling apart so maybe not.

Has Gar thought at all about the fact that dead people can arrive in Heropa, and what implications this has for, say, his mother? Or is that firmly in ignore and repress territory?

YJ cast just needs a kaldur to straighten them the shit out, and THEN they can show Jaime the light of teamwork!!

Anywho.

He's thought about it a bit, but not a hell of a lot. He doesn't want to get his hopes up, so whenever it pops into his mind he just reminds himself it's not likely to happen and shoves it aside. The few times he has actually entertained the thought it he ended up feeling really miserable. She'd probably ground him for life for all the dangerous stuff he's gotten up to with the Team, and that wouldn't be fun. But more importantly the entire time she was around would be incredibly bittersweet, because he'd be thinking from day one about how he'd get her back just to loose her again and forget everything when he went back to his verse. So yeah, he tend to avoid thinking about that.

Once the YJ cast gets their shit together would Jaime want to work with the Team? Would he be excited to? or would he just anticipate problems, and if he did what would they be?

He'd be touched and surprised if they extended him the offer! The waterpark worked out well for him, but he was going as Jaime, not Blue Beetle, and it was Wally who had invited him. He would be a little hesitant, mostly because most of them have been introduced to him as Blue Beetle, Destroyer of Worlds! He would just be worried that they wouldn't actually want to work with him, or that there would be that little part in the back of their mind that would worry about that nasty little what-if.

He wouldn't be so sure about taking orders from Robin, so he would hesitate before becoming a part of the team, but he'd certainly welcome the opportunity to work with them. Once he got past the first couple of hurdles and his own trepidation, he'd be a little excited, because, I mean... look ma, I'm working on a team, just like a real-ass superhero!

Where does Gar see himself in ten years? Is he content staying covert ops, or does he have Justice League aspirations? Does he have a favourite JL member?

According to canon his goals are apparently to become leader of the team, join the Justice League, and get his own reality TV series, presumably in that order.

Buuuuut... I feel like he says that because it sounds cool, not actually because it's what he wants. Leading the Team isn't really his jam, it's a lot of responsibility that would probably overwhelm him and honestly he's perfectly content to just follow orders. And if he had a TV show, he'd probably realize real fast that it wasn't as great as he thought and that it takes away from heroing, which is what he really wants to be doing. Joining the League though, 100% yes. He doesn't want his existence to stay a secret forever, especially since it makes having any sort of a normal life when he's off duty impossible.

Favourite Leaguer? It’s a tie between Martian Manhunter and Superman, he’s got posters of both of them in his room. Supes has been Gar’s favourite since his pre-hero days, but his affection for Manhunter is more recent. He always though Manhunter was cool, cause you know, he’s an alien and that’s rad but he just kind of didn’t pay him much attention. Since J'onn is his honorary uncle now though, he's gotten to know the guy and he's definitely just as much his favourite as Superman.

Does Jaime ever worry about living up to Ted's legacy as Blue Beetle?

omg gar those goals WHAT A PRECIOUS LITTLE MUNCHKIN. I also had no clue that he had posters of Supes and MM in his room - how weird it must be to have posters of your real-life mentors hanging up in your room! Actually, his whole room is adorable (and tragic LOOK AT ALL THAT HELLO MEGAN AND HIS MOM). I'd love to see you guys get an MM in-game, though I'm pretty sure that I have, like, one of the two MM journals in all of dwrpdom.

And short answer: Yes.

This kind of goes back to Jaime not doing a lot of teamwork again - the closest thing he has to a mentor in BB canon is an ex-mercenary who showed up to make sure Jaime didn't go crazy and take over the world. Aside from that, basically all his senior heroes leave him well enough alone save for single visits in which they tell Jaime about how amazing Ted was. From the stories he's heard, Ted was smarter than Batman, noble enough to sacrifice himself for the world, was a technical genius, a wonderful, warm man with a great sense of humour, and he did it all without superpowers.

Yikes.

Fortunately, instead of getting an inferiority complex over it, he chose to look at Ted as an example of everything he wanted to be, and he treats his memory with the utmost respect. In fact, he has a sign on the corkboard in his room that just says WWTKD: What Would Ted Kord Do? Even if he doesn't really resent all his senior heroes for waxing poetic about Ted, that's still a hell of a legacy to live up to. He worries about not being good enough for the mantle - something that's pressing a little more heavily on him now that the man is here in the flesh, though he's still kind of at the stage where he wants to skip around the room like "TED KORD SHOOK MY HAND!!!" - and he worries about what Ted's old colleagues think of him. Mostly, he wants to do the mantle justice and leave behind a legacy full of as many good deeds as Ted's when it's his time to check out.

How is Gar coping with Heropa and all the drama that's been brought in with it? Are there any specific coping methods he uses when things get tough, or does he just grit his teeth and bear it?
