She does! It's not explicitly stated anywhere (because it never came up), but she was working on one while doing her most recent post -- I'd say about a third of her audio threads involve a communicator on a side table while she's working on something. she totes uses her Import status to overprice them (and uses a lot of flowery hipster language in writing descriptions of pre-done pieces — they're usually stylized spirit world monsters, with heavy emphasis on elemental attribute since people are suckers for that kind of stuff; lots of dragons), so selling at least two or three a month is what she usually aims for.

does kanaya do more-than-lipstick makeup in troll form, and if so to what extent?

oh, definitely. eyeliner's easy and constant, but the most important thing for her is concealer under her eyes, she never leaves home without it. of course, since grey skintones aren't exactly a common thing on earth, she pretty much has to mix it herself. the under-eye is her main concern, especially in an emergency situation where she unexpectedly shifted in public and has to head to the bathroom and wash off all the brown, though she does lightly highlight the cheeks as well, just to even out how hollow they are in troll form.

if she's planning to go out and stay troll for a while, she'll pay more attention to contouring, and might even add a jade blush. but eyeliner and under-eye concealer are two things you'll pretty much never see her without, or something is probably wrong.

what kind of places does ruka like to go out to most often? the kind of place she might go out of want more than need?

under-eye concealer is a girl's best friend, it's true.

As far as want goes, her main haunts tend to be designer-sort of cafes and restaurants (she's the type who would actually go to a 5-star hotel just to eat at the restaurant.......), because she grew up passively rich, and those are the types of things you go to and aren't expected to keep moving. She's done pretty well by her ambiguously shitty heart, but she still has to avoid overstraining herself, so while it often means grossly undershooting how much she can do, not pushing her limits often means that she's not already exhausted of it when it's necessary to barrel past them in life-or-death situations.

She's also a fan of woodsy-natural areas, but traipsing into a forest is not easy very often.

Kanaya's thoughts on human interpretation of the Zodiac?

it's a weird issue. like, on one hand, it made sense that people on earth inherited characteristics of their world, even if it's surreal to encounter them having only now been realized after millions of years of evolution. people speaking the same language, people having similar accents, the zodiac. the weirder thing is that these things are still reflected in other earths, when she's come to accept that there's a very high likelihood that she hadn't created the universes these earths inhabit. the synchronicity is the oddest part.

For the zodiac, the weirdest part is the detail. some of them aren't anywhere near the truth, but the ones that are, they're frighteningly so. reading about how virgos over-analyze things while ignoring their feelings, resulting in an unstable and unpredictable temperament? she's not really comfortable with how they got all her worst qualities along with the better one. that isn't the legacy she ever wanted to leave, and having it stare her back in the face definitely makes her hesitate letting others know how she's related to it. she's cool letting folks know she's a virgo, has never actually told anyone she is Virgo.

does ruka ever have problems emotionally isolating herself? i know she's had people get close kind of despite her best efforts, but has anything like that really struck recently?

It's a pretty hard balance for her to strike! She has two major goals when it comes to other people, which in theory should go along fine but in execution are frequently in conflict. On the one hand, she wants to keep people very, very distant from her history and her feelings. She doesn't want anyone to really know what she's gone through, or what hurts she still carries, or anything like that, because then there's pity and caring and it hurts so much more to lose someone who actually cares about you than it is some random loser. At the same time though, she wants to help people and be useful, which in an ideal world would be something she could accomplish without people getting invested in her wellbeing in return. As it turns out, not really the case!

it sucks.

So as a result (and because lol I'm 2 inactive 4 this metaplot), she's had to dial back on the Helping Others aspect in order to preserve a bit more of her isolation. The most recent (and roughest, honestly) breech was our previous Edgeworth (glassinine), because Ruka made the mistake of talking to him while sick and hallucinating to high heaven and then having no excuse to not... not talk to him thereafter. For Reasons which I'm sure most people following Ruka's history know by now, Edgeworth is kinda Hella Important, and unfortunately she did not do too well in obscuring that fact when she was actually interacting with him. Beyond the initial advantage, though, he pushed a lot of her buttons and the weak spots of her barricades, so he wound up becoming important to her on his own merits -- which obv backfired against her when he inevitably ported out.

SO YEAH THAT HURT. she went through a recluse stage immediately after that, and right now is swinging a little bit back into talking to people, but some of that is spurred by all these weirdos calling her at home to ask her shit about lachesis so kanye shrugs.

how does kanaya feel about this version of Earth, as compared to the previous one and the homestuck version of earth she's familiar with? how much does she like/dislike living here
