TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

while Manabu gets his bearings back, Tadashi's getting another earful – about pushing people around, rather than bikes. he winces and speaks up to interject:]
I-it's alright! Really. No harm done! [he tries to smile convincingly, looking a little queasy in spite of it.] Let's not get riled up about it. [and accidentally start pummeling the shit out of him. please?]

[He's gesturing and trying to calm the store owner down while also trying to step away from the bikes. Enough lab accidents have told him to put distance between oneself and the machinery. Once he's sufficiently distanced, the owner grumbles and goes back inside.]
... Are you all right? I'm really sorry about that.

It's alright. I'm pretty sure you didn't do that on purpose. [his eyes wince with his chuckle.] It's been happening all day, since I got here...
[and it is literally the worst thing ever, but how's that this guy's problem?]
no subject
[He squints a little, leaning in but keeps his hands to himself. There doesn't seem to be anything particularly special about this guy so why...?]
You just got here too, then. People just... punch you?
[Weird.]

but, Manabu being Manabu, he cuts that out pretty quick, perking up again, while his brows are still knit with some kind of wincing apology.] But, but yeah. One minute I'm taking a train back to work, and the next...
[a shrug.]

[What a way to find out you have a superpower. At least, that's what Tadashi's assuming is happening here to this poor guy. It's obviously weighing on him and he can admire the attempt at optimism.]
Sat down in a dark room and told you're in some military facility, right?

A fair number of folks around here, it looks like, so... You're not alone. [He shrugs.]
no subject
[a beat, his gaze dropping toward the bikes thoughtlessly before thinking on them. oh. he's just. standing around, isn't he. he looks back up.]
Ah, well...That is, I actually don't know much about what's going on yet, so I can't be of much help to you. I'm sorry.
no subject
I'm sorry, I'm not much help either, what I just told you is about as much as I know. Think there're a lot of others in the same boat around here we could probably ask.
[And hopefully not get you punched by.]

[He starts to put his hand on his shoulder but stops short. Riiight. And settles for a quick thumbs up! See, he learns quick!]
There's a whole town we can ask around in, annnd if what I heard is right, other towns too.

[That opens up a whole new level of possibilities. He should probably get a handle on this place first and then think about expanding his thoughts outward.]
Could be interesting.

his smile eases off a little in the face of responsibility and such, straightening up properly.]
Make sure you're careful around here when looking around for those answers. [nevermind that it's you who knocked into the poor guy, Manabu.] That debriefing didn't really cover much of the ins and outs, so who knows what's really what.
no subject
[Whoops you've lost him to science!! He's already wondering where the libraries or any research center is that he can get into. He wants to read.]
You be careful too, right?
no subject
[he seems satisfied with that until Tadashi turns to leave. then he startles a bit and speaks up quick:] W-wait!
...Ah...That is, your name? I didn't catch it...
no subject
Tadashi.
no subject
Right. I'm Manabu. If I see you again, hopefully I'll have something to share.
