TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

I'm quite fond of the ground, I think. [He waves the hand away though he does prop himself up.] What do you mean "It's okay"? I just decked you! Yell at me or something. Go on!
[He waves a hand in encouragement.]
I refuse to believe you're that much of a doormat.
no subject
I-it's not like that! It's just...You didn't do that on purpose. So it'd be stupid to yell at you about something you couldn't even help.

He fixes Manabu with a queer look.]
How do you know I didn't mean to punch you? Maybe I didn't like your face!

[Curling his hand into a fist, he slams it against the sidewalk and immediately regrets it. Waving his now-injured hand he shoots over a curious look.] Why are you so adamant to forgive me?
no subject
Be...because I'm not mad about it! Honestly, there's not a lot to it. You really shouldn't be getting worked up about it – you might actually hurt yourself!
[what the heck! maybe if he were Bruce, he could at least muster something to feel irked about, but right now, Manabu's just worried this guy's going to hurt himself for no reason. not a good thing for your first day in a whole new universe!]

What are you, a priest? [Not even priests are that gentle. It's downright suspicious. And pitiable. Definitely pitiable. With a belabored sigh, Locke pushes himself up, brushing the dirt from his pants as he stands.] It's positively disconcerting to meet a man who seems to enjoy being punched.
[Chances are he could get off on it but-well. Locke would rather not think about that.]

No. No. Don't "nevermind" me! Explain yourself if you wish it! Go on. [He gestures at him with a flip of his hand before he crosses his arms.] Go on!
no subject
sigh.]
Well...since getting here, [vague gesture.] every so often, people are just hitting me out of the blue. So you're not exactly the first one! I'm supposed to believe it's some kind of power or circumstance because of that machine, but I don't know.
no subject
Which really does just leave the machine. Locke sighs, rubbing at his temple with two fingers.]
The machine. Right. The thing that brought us here. [He's been trying not to think about it.] Alright. So you're not a masochist. Congratulations. I suppose that makes you less of a freakish disaster and more of just-well. [He gives a half-shrug, fixing him with a pitying look.] A disaster.
no subject
he shakes his head, taking a step backward.]
I guess that doesn't matter. You're fine, right? I'll just go on my way.
no subject
Trust me, I've had worse happen than being bowled over by bow-legged slobs. You're the one who should be worried. I'd buy a mask if you're to keep going. Might help to get some protection and all that.
no subject
but this guy, regardless of attitude, is at least not in any trouble, so Manabu feels alright enough to back away a step and start to turn, holding up a hand.]
Be careful yourself, then.
