TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Yeah. I'm a big girl after all, I can handle a few scrapes-

[ It's just when she goes to wipe the blood away with her sleeve she can't find the source. ]

That's strange, I could've sworn after a tumble like that... You're sure you're okay, too?

[tadeadshi]

Uh...

[He pulls his hand away and looks himself over, pats himself down. Nothing but a few tears in his clothes.]

Yeah, I'm fine, so...

[Where did that blood come from.] You're sure you're not hurt?

That's just it, I thought I was.

[ She's gets up off the ground without a problem and starts to dust off her skirt when she starts at all the papers just scattered to the four winds; her files. And then she's back in the street again like she didn't just almost get run over already.

As she's gathering them up though, a thought occurs to her.]

You wouldn't happen to be new in town, would you?

[tadeadshi]

[He gathers up the papers close by him, offering them to her once he's back up and looking for the rest to help.]

Yeah, this morning actually.

... That obvious, huh?

[ She takes them with a quick "thanks" and then follows after a few more that have drifted across the street. She doesn't remember her file being quite so thick, honestly, but it's the last thing she want's to leave lying around either way. ]

No, not so much actually, but if it has to do with the whole 'superpowers' thing then that might explain it.

Probably. Can't imagine any other reason they've give us this information.

[Once he's sure she has her papers, he starts looking around and gathering up his that he dropped.]

Makes me wonder what they did keep for themselves, y'know?

A lot, if mine is anything to go by. [ She thumbs through her own papers sullenly. What's there isn't much but it's more than enough as far as she's concerned. ]

The powers aren't a bad bonus though, wouldn't you say? I'm glad they explain those, at least.

[tadeadshi]

Huh.

[He glances at his own, still unopened.]

Wouldn't know, I haven't read mine yet.

[Honestly he's a little anxious to, no matter how cool this probably is.]

Why not? Unless you think you're better off not knowing?

[ So maybe she's coming off as a bit too excited about what a stranger's personal file might contain, but if not cheery about his then she'd just be nervous about hers, and that's not a line of questioning she wants to open up. ]

[tadeadshi]

[The enthusiasm is a welcome familiarity, only put off by he doesn't know this person. But he can appreciate it! Excitement of the unknown is something he's used to working in, heck it's what drives him and his friends, really.]

Iiii dunno. Keep thinking maybe... [Maybe I'll wake up and be asleep at the cafe with my family. He shakes his head. He'd done everything he could think of when he got out of the base to try and 'wake up' and nothing worked. And the pain he felt from tackling her to safety pretty much proved it. He shrugs finally.]

I don't know. Maybe a surprise later?

Fair enough, surprises can be nice I suppose. [ Okay, maybe she is a bit genuinely curious, but she's not one to pry. 'Do unto others' and all of that. ]

Oh! Look at how silly I am though, I probably should've started off by thanking you for the rescue first.

[tadeadshi]

It's okay, annnnd you're welcome. [Now that they're back to this and not his personnel file, he's a bit more comfortable.]
