TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Tadashi sees the kids off and smiles relieved that they're unscathed (if a little shaken up). He rubs at his arms a little, unsure when it got chilly]

I don't think it did, no. I don't feel anythi-whoa. [He finally turned and look at the speaker and ... That is. One pale guy. It definitely throws him off; he should have expected it with everything else he's seen here but wow. He redirects his thoughts back to the question.]

Yeah, I'm fine.

[ Extremely pale, most definitely, and don't mind the shadows under his eyes or grey lips. Jack's smile tightens with a forced chuckle, ducking his head for a moment as Mister Hero reorientates himself. He holds out a palm and crackle of ice builds up there, smooth as a pebble. ]

None of this needed for any bumps? That was dramatic, you did a flying leap. [ Understatement, wow. ] For a minute I thought you owned super-speed.

[ His eyes widen just a smidge at the ice. Definitely cool, no pun intended but how?]

No, I think I'm pretty injury-free. But thanks for the offer.

[He shrugs at the comment.] I just... Had to do something, fastest way to get to them.

You could've got yourself killed, pal, be more careful in the future. [ The ice crumples into tiny diamond-like shards, filtering away to nothing as Jack brushes it off. His attention is stolen by the fuss of papers swirling up in the wind over the road and he taps a warm shoulder with his chilly staff. ] Those yours?

Hm?

[He looks in the indicated spot and-- Oh crap, darts for them. He doesn't even know what's on them! They're probably really important! Super speed he in fact... does not have. He barely misses getting the last paper before it was carried off and sighs. The whole stacks covered in water stains now, but he can figure out a way to read them later.]

Thanks. I don't think they give out extra copies of these.

[ Jack, meanwhile, soars over the road upright with the wind under his heels and remains airborne as he watches, chuckling. The rogue slip of paper is easily caught as he swoops over to snatch it out of the air near a third-story window, hopping back to the pavement to hand it over. ]

There you go. What are they, exactly?

[He smiles taking the last paper and puts it as neatly as he can in the folder.]

Dunno. I haven't gotten the chance to look, just know they gave it to me before they escorted me off the base. Figure it's important.

Didn't you get one?

Oh, it's your file. Yeah, mine's ... here somewhere.

[ A rolled-up, bent-to-hell file is pulled out of Jack's hoodie, a bit soggy from where the ice on his clothes keeps melting into it. ]

It'll have your superpower in it. Supposedly if you didn't have one before you came here, you do now and all the info's in there. I didn't get anything extra, obviously. Jack Frost, hi.

Really..

[He glances down at his folder, then at his fingers. He doesn't feel any different, so he's not entirely sure he actually got one. But only time will tell, he guesses.]

...Of course you are.

[He means that genuinely, he's not trying to mock. But he's so used to little bro, it likely comes out that way anyway.]

Don't even try to pull that face on me, Mister Hero.

[ Or he might be tempted to lightly thwap an ankle with his staff, sending fern-frost spiralling up Tadashi's leg; like that! So there. ]

Ah-!

[He jerks his leg away, but he's smiling. That's amazing? Amazing, yes, that's a good word. He can't help but laugh and bring his leg up to brush some of the frost loose.]

Got it, got it. Won't make fun of the powerful Jack Frost again.

[ Nyeah. ]

Got a name or should I just keep referring to you as That Brave Soul? Champion of Children? The Scooper-Upper.

[Since this guy's a winter spirit, he figures it's safe to shake hands. Not like the poor guy who keeps getting punched that he met earlier today. Then again, he might freeze his hand off so he changes his mind.]

[ He sticks his hand out to be shaken, just to stop all that frittering about, mental and very awkwardly otherwise. A brief touch will be cold, certainly, but nothing alarming. ]

Nice to meet you, Tadashi, even though you clearly doubt my very existence and I'm benevolently ignoring that.

I can't really doubt your existence when you're right here in front of me.

[Now, doubting your identity, that's something else entirely.]

But how very kind of you.

A circuitously rude hero, I'm impressed. And I'm a very generous guy, one might hazard to say benevolent. I offered you ice! Practically gave you the royal treatment.

[ He slings his staff over a shoulder, eyeing him sidelong. ]
