TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Feferi Peixes | Homestuck
[Feferi blinked, looking thoughtful studying the faces around her. She'd never seen so many people in one place. Not in person, at least. Seadwellers were pretty rare, and she'd never had much time away from her lusus, not when Glb'golyb was always so very hungry, so she'd never been able to go to the cities. And everyone was human, too, which was a little weird and strange. At least she was still grey, even if some people did seem to be a little uneasy looking at her.
Oh well. It didn't really matter. There were more people here, and not all of them looked unhappy to see her. Smiling as widely as possible, teeth clearly visible, she approached the nearest friendly-looking face.]
HI! My name is Feferi! Have you just been fished up too?
3/4
[She was still getting used to this place. It was still strange having SO MANY people around, and the technology was SO weird. Why was it all metallic? No bioware at all?
It was because she was staring at the cars, wondering if they were all metal under the bonnets too or if there might be some proper organic technology running them that she noticed the chase, and the people in the way who clearly hadn't noticed.]
HEY! YOU NEED TO WATCH OUT!
[She hefted her fork and considered jumping up. Maybe she could stab the car? That would stop it, right? And, as a bonus, she would get to find out what was in those floating transportation devices.]

Feferi nudges X and asks him- something about fishing and it takes his processor a second to catch up. He'd been pretty deep in thought.] I- well, yeah, I guess you could say so. Most of us have, right?

[She grins, pleased at least someone gets how relevant her pun is to this situation.]
You know, you're meant to give your name back when people give you theirs.
no subject
are those fishing puns is she making like water or fish puns at him
should he play along???] I'm just still kind of reeling at everything that's happened. [nailed it]
no subject
I suppose I can let you off the hook, just this once!
[More seriously-]
It is all very strange. Why do they need so many of us?

[It's just a bad way to run an empire, okay? The armies of trollkind run on basically everyone being more afraid of the Empress and all the other highbloods than anyone else out there! And that's still a very bad way of doing it, in Feferi's opinion.]

[Also, it irritates her, on a practical level. She's genuinely puzzled as to what else to be worried about.]
no subject
Though they make sure people can get settled in comfortably, at least. That's pretty generous. Free housing, immediate employment...

"Fished up" isn't anywhere close to what I'd-- [ wait a second, did she say... kanaya turns to look at her in complete surprise. this is not at all what she expected. ]
Feferi?
no subject
Yes, that's what I said!
[She tilts her head sideways, looking puzzled, and still very much like a troll. The voice is familiar,in a way. There's only one person Feferi knows who speaks so very precisely, after all. But the face, she's almost certain she's never seen before.]
I think I should know you, shouldn't I?
no subject
[ the face isn't entirely unfamiliar, though by no means the same. she's four years older than the last time she saw feferi and nearly a foot taller, but even beyond that there's the fact that she's inexplicably brown and hornless.
she digs deep into her mind, pulling up memories she tries not to think about. sollux flying against the monitor, white streams piercing feferi's heart the pain of death and awakening. the matriorb shattering. she remembers her teeth at a corpse's neck, drinking deep to grant herself the strength to take revenge.
it's all anxiety, trauma, stress that she needs to trigger the transformation, a flash of light breaching her skin, and settling into something closer to what feferi knew, if a bit gaunt. ]
I understand that I can be difficult to recognize on first impression. You can think Lachesis for that one. [ she clasps her hands together, kneeling slightly to match feferi's height closer as she forces a smile. the results are mixed. ]
So, um. Here you are.
no subject
[Oh man, now there's someone Feferi is happy to see. The last time Feferi had seen Kanaya, she'd been very clearly killed by Eridan. It's nice to see her relatively whole and alive, and regardless of propriety and acceptable social mores, Feferi throws her arms around Kanaya for a very brief hug and glubs once or twice.]
It's good to see you! You're older! Who's Lachesis? What happened? Are you worried about me being here?
no subject
One at a time, one at a time! Lachesis is, uh, she's the consciousness within the Porter. She brought me nearly two sweeps ago, that's why I'm. Well. As old as I am.
You being here is really more a relief than a worry. Considering...things. [ it means she's not dead. does she know she was dead? kanaya can't tell. ]
no subject
[Oh, wow. That really is a long time. Still, Kanaya is Kanaya, right? She can't have changed that much.]
It's definitely better than being dead! I thought this was a very strange dream bubble at first, but it can't be, not if we're both alive. And I don't think people in the bubbles can grow up, either.
[She's still smiling, head tilted. Hey, she always knew she was probably going to die. And it's not like it was particularly unpleasant, as deaths go.]
no subject
For the residents, maybe. But, for the most part, I've only ever been a resident to any bubble. I'm not exactly dead anymore. [ though she isn't sure feferi really knew she ever was, since she was dead already by the time that happened. ]
I haven't been alone. Not really. We're much...sparser now than we've been in the past, but never once was it only me.
1
Fef — [no, not Fefeta, slightly different] — Feferi?
no subject
Well, when in doubt stay cheerful and go on the attack!]
That's me, yes! Do I know you?
no subject
no subject
[Time is Aradia's thing, not Feferi's!]
It is definitely possible, though. I am dead, after all!
no subject
We spent a lot of time talking shit about dumb boys.
no subject
[Feferi giggles.]
I do know a lot of those.
no subject
...then you guys kinda died again, but hey, I guess I still get to talk to half of you, except fully?
no subject
It's nice to hear I was still doing something after I was dead. The dreambubbles were a very good idea, but I didn't realise all the limits there would be on how much we could do in there that would be useful.
