TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero β so you better act fast.

Max Payne | Max Payne game series
[Max hates everything right now, but a few items in particular are standing out at the top of the list. They are: 1) himself 2) the Porter or whatever it's called 3) mirror dimensions 4) tattoos that claim he's a hero 5) hovering motorcycles that look like they came out of an old Elvis movie.
There's not much he can do about any of those things though, which honestly suits him just fine. He'd much rather just stand on the street and stare at the bizarre floating transportation drifting past him, as though it will just wink out of existence if he rejects it strongly enough. It's not working too well, so he decides to throw some words behind the sentiment and see if that helps:]
What the hell is happening?

Let me guess: new here?

You got it. [Wryly.] Just got... 'ImPorted.' I think that's what they called it.

[She is too perky. Too perky, at least for Max.]
And how do you know so much, Hime? You don't look like someone the military would hand a lot of information to.
no subject
Well, you learn these things when you're stuck somewhere for a while.

[Max has been called dumb many times, with many varying degrees of justification, but he was a detective and he can tell when a teenager is fibbing.]
Well, impress me. What do you think a new guy needs to know about all this?

[Max looks down at his hands as though challenging them to sprout claws or catch fire or... whatever.]
I don't feel any different, though.
[Mainly because he retains his game-canon 'powers' of bullet-time reflexes and painkiller healing.]

[Looks like someone else is equally sour about their arrival here. While this place seems up to speed to her technology in some ways, it's so far behind in others. Apparently no one is offering on-demand trips to space, at least for any reasonable amount of money Samus can squander up quickly, so it seems like jettisoning out of this solar system ain't really an option.]
Just need to know if I'm here for the long haul.
[She eyes her wrist a bit before jamming it back in the pocket of the civilian clothes she's picked up. She gets the feeling that the people who gave her that tattoo are her only ticket out, and they don't seem to be budging much.]

Well, I'd love to tell you it was just an overnight stay, but this whole setup...
[He waves his tattooed wrist around, looking grumpy.]
It feels pretty permanent. They're not expecting us to just be around for a few days.
[Max heaves a sigh.]
We might have to settle in for a long haul.

Not much else she can do without causing too much of a stir, which probably isn't a wise idea being so new and not knowing what retaliation she can expect.]
Yeah. Set up with houses and jobs to keep us occupied. Feels like a leash.
