TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[It's a voice from behind him. If he turns, he'll see a young human woman, maybe in her early 20s at most, with pale white skin and dark black hair. To him, she might feel intimately familiar.] You look a little lost. Can I help?
(ooc: Hi! So, Death here, if you aren't familiar with Sandman, is sort of implied to be the physical embodiment of Death from every universe. So the Melkor player on my permissions post reasoned that Mandos and Death would definitely know each other. We've been doing that so far, since we didn't know you'd want to app, but if it doesn't work for you I can definitely try to work something out!
Of course, if it works for you, then we're all good :D)

[Námo turns at the voice, taking a moment to recognize her specifically. Only a moment though before one of his very rare smiles crosses his features. It's short lived but it was there.]
A little. [He admits softly, glancing around them. At least he isn't being crowded like some people are. He's used to the solitude of Mandos and the limited company of his wife and that Valar, Maiar and Firstborn.]
I understand very little of this world or its goings on.

It's not a bad world, though. There's a lot to enjoy here.
(ooc: Okay! If you're curious about her / wonder if it'd come up, there's more about her weird-ass existence in her app. But yeah, she's generally the person that comes to end the lives at the moment of death. I also figured she'd probably be part of the Gift of Iluvatar to Men, since he doesn't have a hand in that.
She'd also probably look more like an elf to him back home, since her canon indicates different cultures see her as what they're familiar with.)

It doesn't seem terrible but strange still. Much of what they offer here is foreign. And their clothes are strange. [He plucks lightly at the shirt he'd acquired, the name of some band emblazoned on it.]
(ooc: Sweet, I'll check that out. And yeah, he really doesn't deal much with Men except briefly when they comes to Mandos and pass on beyond the circles of the World.)

(ooc: Yeah, how I've been headcanoning it is that Death lets Mandos do his thing within Arda, but outside of the circles of the World is her domain. Both for Men, and at the end of the world when Mandos' halls empty.)

[Here they had to learn to deal with the strangeness of technology. On Arda, they would have to learn to live without. Something Námo imagines would be easier.]

Most people here couldn't make a fire without a lighter if their lives depended on it.

[Be gentle, Death. He still has quite a bit to learn. Some things just don't make it in his foresight. And for all he knows, he doesn't often look into the very far future, only a couple ages ahead at a time.]

It's a little thing about yea big. Has flammable gas in it, and the top makes a spark when you click it. Makes a little flame. Really very convenient.
