TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Dani's used to the hubbub of the city, and is currently window shopping when she hears the squabble of people flocking to some 'costumed face' on the sidewalk nearby. At first, she figures she'd make herself scarce before there's too much of a crowd...but she catches eyes with Cullen's shell-shocked stare and, well, he looks like he's about to scream bloody murder.

She slips her way around the crowd and manages to muscle in carefully, graceful as you please, and locks arms with him.]

There you are! I have been looking all over for you.

[Her smile is entirely fake as she looks up at him and she tugs him along, brushing past a few women with cell phones. A little tendril of magic is enough to gently nudge the passerby so they can walk. She shoots one of the taller women a glare.]

Excuse me, do you mind? You act like you haven't seen a model before. I could get your phone confiscated, you know-- My agent's going to give you hell if he catches you.

[The threat is threadbare but just enough to let them slip by, and she keeps tugging poor Cullen along in the hopes that he'll keep walking long enough so that they can get around the corner.]

Come on, we're going to be late. Scram, girls, we're busy.

[And once they're barely around the bend, with a few still following, she leans in and whispers:] You okay?

[It's a different kind of fear, but it's fear nonetheless. He's always been shy, sometimes bordering on painfully shy, and social situations will never be his strong suit. Not unless there's a sword in his hands and a battle to be fought, men to lead. He answers their questions as politely as possible, though by the time someone's grabbed him by the arm his throat has begun to tighten, the words coming slower.

He follows along dutifully, perhaps foolishly, given that he doesn't know this woman either. There are people in this world with powers he can't even begin to imagine, and not all of them friendly, but somehow all he can manage to feel is grateful. When they round the corner and she finally speaks directly to him, he lets out a sigh of relief.]

I... yes, thank you.

[He glances back over his shoulder, quickly turning to face forward once more as he catches sight of one of the stragglers behind them. Keeping his voice low:]

Sweet Andraste, is it always like that here? I don't think I can take much more of this.
