TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

And remember to have fun!

    01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

    02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

    03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

    04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Rescue comes in to form of an Abhorsen who's also attracting attention. At first it comes from her clothes- swords and armor are simply not a common sight around Heropa. Then someone asks about her powers, and then a child asks her to cast a spell.

From there, Sabriel finds herself attracting more and more attention, as people keep asking her to show them more spells, until Sabriel finds herself surrounded by glowing lights and smoke from several carefully cast fire spells.]

That's enough! Please, please, can one of you tell me where I can buy some clothes? I'd be happy to show you some other spells after that.

[It's true--strange armor and fancy hair tend to pale in comparison with strange armor and fire spells. There are a few admirers who cling to him regardless (probably because they're interested in... other things, ahem) but the young woman has siphoned a sufficient number of people away from Cullen that he's had a chance to regain his composure, and now it's his turn to come to the rescue.

The fact that she's a mage gives him slight pause--mages are risk enough in his own world, what might one from an entirely different world be capable of?--but he's willing to take a chance this time. Now using his tall, armored form to his advantage, Cullen carefully pushes through the crowd until he's close enough to the girl for her to hear him over the rest of the crowd. He offers a gloved hand, careful of the magical fire surrounding her.]

Would you care to join me?

[He jerks his head to the side in a "let's get the hell out of here" sort of gesture.]

Thank you. [The spells are dismissed with a quick gesture, breaking apart into their component marks and fading away as she grabs the other man's hand.]

I thought they'd never leave me alone. At first it was nice for them to take an interest, but things got out of hand.

[Sabriel looks around, watching the people around them.]

We need to find different clothes. Armor attracts far too much attention.

As much as it pains me to admit it, I couldn't agree more.

[He releases her hand as soon as they're past the majority of the throng, though even afterward he keeps an arm protectively close just in case. Judging by the magic and the armor there's a fair chance the girl can probably look after herself should trouble find them, but the urge to protect is instinctive.]

I have the address of a clothing shop, but I've had little luck finding it thus far. I was actually on my way there when...

[When his life turned into a One Direction concert.]

Well, at least we probably won't be attacked by the Dead or something else. [But still, they were brought here to fight- that's clear enough.]

Perhaps if we make it very clear we're busy, someone will just give us directions instead of asking us to take photographs with them. Or we can keep walking until we find a place that sells what we need. [That can't take too long, right?]

[He looks over sharply at her at the mention of "the Dead." He's run into his fair share of the undead (who hasn't, roaming through the Fallow Mire?), but for that to be the first concern out of her mouth?]

Do you come across the dead often, where you're from?

[Right, directions. He fishes the scrap of paper with the address out of his surcoat and stares down at it for a moment.]

There is another possibility: the woman who gave me this address suggested taking a... "taxi"? I believe it to be one of those. [He gestures with the hand holding the paper up toward one of the hovercars cruising by.]

[So he doesn't know what the bells mean, though he's heard of the Dead. Sabriel frowns.]

Dealing with the Dead- making sure they stay dead- is my family's duty. My father and I are- I suppose the best word would be counter-necromancers. It falls to us to deal with necromancy and Free Magic- that sort of thing.

A taxi- Oh! Yes, they have those in Ancelstierre. [Although Sabriel rarely used them. Generally, she only left school as part of a supervised trip.] They're cars you can hire to take you to a particular location. I'll try to get one.

[Luckily, everyone seems to like imports here. It doesn't take long for one to pull up to them.]
