TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

And remember to have fun!

    01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

    02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

    03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

    04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[ People were weird about imports.

They were so weird about imports. And honestly, the way they gathered around new ones was...disconcerting, to say the least. He thought that maybe the government purposefully did it to shock people into being a little more compliant. That would make sense to him. Or maybe he was just being damn paranoid. It was difficult to tell these days.

It's probably just a touch too nice to intervene, wasn't it? Honestly, he should probably mind his own business, because what if the guy didn't want to get out of it?

But then he caught his eye. Oh yeah, he needed help. That was the look of a man who'd seen hell, and couldn't get out. He was trapped with the gaggle of people fawning over him, and -- did that person just pet his armor?
]

Hey! There you are! [ Come on, Kaidan, think. ] I've been looking all over for you --

[ Trying to shove through the crowd. He was here to help, come on, Cullen, don't look a gift horse in the mouth... ]

[He's so completely outnumbered and overwhelmed that it takes him a little longer than it should to realize that there's someone speaking directly to him--and not asking him some inane question, or making some subtly inappropriate comment (this may be a different world but he could swear some of these people have Orlesian blood in them). He looks up as it dawns on him, catches the man's eye and nods.

Play along, Cullen.]

Yes, I'm sorry, I-- what? No, I'm afraid I'm busy this evening, but thank you--

[He starts pushing ever so gently through the crowd as well, using his tall, armored frame to part the mass of bodies.]

I'm sorry, I completely lost track of the hour. If you all will excuse me?

[The look he shoots Kaidan is a mixture of gratitude and anxiety. Time to beat a hasty retreat.]

CACKLES!! Just as planned

[ Having the effort recognized was almost as good as actually getting away. He hadn't even come up with a story, and he didn't really care, as long as the throng parted, and -- Yes, alright, he managed to catch his arm -- the armored part, and he tugged. Alright, maybe that was generous. More like managed to pull slightly in his direction -- but it still took a bit for the crowed to part.

Yeah, they tended to do that. Imports were celebrities -- and yes, handsome imports often got a lot of attention. He never understood it, but then again, Kaidan tried to avoid those sorts of things. Of course, the migraine excuse worked out pretty well for him, considering how insensitive they tended to be -- swarming someone who looked obviously confused like that. He felt (mostly) bad for the guy. ]

Hey, are you alright? Sorry about... the, ah, locals. They get a little excited about new people. They think they're going to get autographs from the "next big hero", if they catch them early enough.

[Cullen nods.]

Yes, thank you. Though I don't know how much longer I could have put up with that, had you not intervened.

[All right, so that's a bit of a lie. He'd have put up with it as long as necessary, as he's done before, and been as polite as possible the entire time. But he would have been thoroughly miserable for the entirety of it. Social situations are not his forte, not by a long shot.

He shoots the man a skeptical look.]

Autographs, that's the... signing your name in their books? I've heard of it. Seems a little ridiculous, clambering after someone just to have them sign a bit of paper in a book, doesn't it?
kanadian: (That might be a huge no)

[personal profile] kanadian 2015-02-02 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
You get, uh, used to it.

[ Not that autographs here were anything like the types that people had back home. Then again, look at the technology of this place. It was honestly to be expected. They had a lot further to go. ]

Normally it's for... memorabilia, as far as I know. It makes something worth more, even if they just hold onto it, it means a lot to some people.

And some people like to...sell that when you hit it big. How long have you been here, you probably -- Have they given you the rundown?
