TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Superman looks… actually pretty surprised.

He’s been asked to identify himself before, of course. Especially in here where he’s definitely not as well-known as he was back home, not by a long shot. He’s fine with that- he even likes it, in a way. Sure, being known was helpful but it also had a lot of problems so he’s fine with being fairly unknown for now.

But the way she asks him? That’s a new one. So he lets his feet land next to her, raising an eyebrow.]

Superman. [Because really, what else is he supposed to say?] You should probably identify yourself as well.

[ Crap. Crap crap crap it's a superhero; she's outgunned. Nikita was instinctively reaching for her weapon, slowly brings her hand back, straightens, and adjusts herself to curious, but businesslike. This man doesn't give her the impression he can be charmed the usual ways, but there's other tools. ]

[ Briskly, ] Detective Danielle Vo, Portland PD.

[ Now to see what will you do, Superman. ]

[What he does is offering his hand for her to shake. Even if there had been a hiccup in her heartbeat she's obviously on edge with his presence, so it'sis easy to assume he startled her (and is probably making her nervous).]

Nice to meet you, Detective. This entire situation must be really different to what you're used to.

[janebond]

[ A hesitation, then she shakes his hand firmly, noting his grip. ]

You don't say. I feel like I'm at Comic-Con.

[ She eyes the costume up and down, with the curiosity of someone unused to this kind of uniform. in reality she's looking for weak points. it's not Kevlar, but shooting at him would probably be exceptionally stupid. No one was this self assured unless they were good. ]

[andaway]

[That's... not a term he's familiar with, but he knows comics and he knows conventions, so it's not hard to guess what she means. It makes him grin.]

I'm sorry if I startled you, my outfit is meant to be seen but if you aren't used to it I guess it can be surprising.

Do you need any help? You look crazy prepared, but I thought I'd ask.

[janebond]

[ He has a kind smile, the type that crinkles the side of his eyes and looks natural to have. It's... nice. She reflects it with Danielle's warm smile. Good manners were always appreciable. ]

It's just a stakeout, but you never know.

[ Of course the plan's blown, but that happens all the time and barely fazes her. She crouches back down in her original survey position, gesturing for him to do the same so they keep out of sight. After a few moments, she hands him the binoculars. ]

[The wording reminds him of Bruce, a little bit. Much nicer, at least she isn't kicking him out or basically ignoring him. So he lands next to her, crouching.]

So... I can see through things. [Casual, very casual. She's obviously not used to powers and he doesn't know how much is too much.] If you tell me what you're exactly looking for, I could help?

[ Casual, but that can be put down to trying to break it to her gently. Inwardly, she's amused. Amanda never did gentle; she only wanted you to think she was, but every one of her cuts was surgical, meant to hollow out the soul and scoop it out like it was some fascinating lab experiment. Nikita's unused to it being applied to her by a stranger. ]

You see through things. [ in a tone of "of course, he flies, he can see through things now". She brushes her hair from her face, shaking her head. ] Can you check if their shipment is already in the warehouse? Probably three crates, [ gesturing ] yea high.

[ If there's evidence there the local cops can be called, and her cover's safe. ]

[He dutifully looks towards the warehouse, his eyes glowing a bright translucent blue as his power kicks in.]

I see three crates... [He frowns, his eyes still glowing.] But there's some lead in them, and I can't see through that. So I can't really confirm what's inside.
