TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Roxas is running late, and by running he really means hovering, thanks to the free hoverboards handed out at the welcome ceremony when he arrived. He should have left earlier, but he's still not completely used to being unable to open dark corridors—time management wasn't something he ever had to learn before.

He has no idea that there's anyone in any world he resembles beside Sora, so when he swoops right by Aqua he's not trying to freak her out or even brush her off—but the sight of a spiky-haired blind kid gliding by might be startlingly familiar.]

[ She's not expecting to see anyone familiar. She's been here a little while, and she's still trying to get used to everything. It's just so different, but Aqua's always been one to adapt pretty quickly. But not having her friends here, knowing they're likely in a lot of danger... it's a big pill to swallow.

So when she sees a terribly familiar someone, she can't help but gasp and run after them. Ven? ]

Hey-- Wait! [ Her yell comes out a little breathlessly. ]

[oathkeeping]

[The voice is unfamiliar, but the tone it takes is clear—someone's trying to get his attention. Roxas glances over his shoulder to see an older girl chasing after him and quickly wheels around, bringing his hoverboard to a stop.]

Yeah? Can I help you with something?

[prismbloom]

[ Something about the boy gives her pause. His demeanor... it's nothing like Ven's, even if they have the same face. It makes her feel a little off-balance, and she stops not too far away from him. What, exactly, do you say to someone who has one of your best friend's faces, but seems completely different? ]

You look... a lot like one of my friends.

[oathkeeping]

[Uhhhh.

What does he even say to that? She can't mean Sora, can she? No, he'd know that much, even if they don't share all their memories.]

Um...huh. [Awkward pause? Awkward pause.] What's his name?

[ He's not alone in feeling awkward, really. She does feel bad about it--she'd feel weird, too, if a seemingly complete stranger said something like that to her. ]

His name is Ventus. Ven, for short.

[Ventus...Ven...

Nope, there's nothing.]

Never met him. Sorry.

[ Well, now it's sufficiently awkward... Her heart sinks, and her shoulders slump a little bit. So, as far as she knows, Ven's probably still in trouble... ]

I see... I'm sorry. This must be really confusing for you.

Uh...not really. Sometimes people just look like each other.

[With no idea of just how much he looks like the person she's thinking of, all he can feel is bad for this girl who looks so disappointed...okay, and awkward, too. But he's not completely heartless, so to speak.]
