Military bro!! Okay, so... like Kaidan really feels for Ed. Like in a lot of ways, and that's even more true since the memoryshare. He didn't see anything with Ed, but there was definitely a feeling there that he's been through some deep shit, and that makes Kaidan feel a lot for him. Mostly because he's been there. he knows what it's like, and he knows how hard it is to deal with that kind of thing. The fact that Edward persevered so far is pretty...

Well, he's like fifteen, that's really damn impressive. He can't believe it tbh. Anyway, he really admires Ed for that, and wants to help support him through what he can. He knows that's mostly going to be in terms of backup and firepower more than anything else, but he really wants to make sure Ed knows he's always around in a lot of ways. Especially since he's seen some of the crap Kaidan's gone through, and while he definitely didn't...want to talk about it emotionally, it doesn't mean he doesn't understand that the kind of thing he's seen is bound to make two people closer.

Oh yeah. Ed's been through hell and back in canon and nearly died more than once from it all. Had some pretty harsh revelations thrown in his face but he's nothing if not stubborn to keep picking himself up from it.

But definitely, Ed trusts Kaidan and considers him a friend. Someone he will probably eventually share more about what went down back home with, especially after the memory mess. While he hasn't been in active war himself ala Ishbal, he's still been through some pretty heavy stuff, and Kaidan is one of those that would likely relate to that more than some others.
