This is actually 1000 years long canon background story in which Demona basically becomes her own worst enemy and she blames it on humans since she would probably break down if she blamed herself. It's a REALLY long story, very convulsed and it involves magic and time travel (which make things harder) and due to human nature Demona basically fuels herself to be like this.

It's seriously a really huge story, which I love to tell, buuuut it can be found here if you are interested! Very sorry for the huge tl;dr, but Demona has lived for a long time and her story is one of the best developed in the show.

I do remember the series when it first aired but I didn't get to see much of it. I remember how much I loved the cartoons of the 90s, though; so many of them had intelligent storylines for adults as well as weird humor and I really appreciated that.

How's Jeff feeling about life in this place so far?

Adjusting to it fairly quickly, possibly a mixture of his sheer apathy to everything ever, his need to play it cool and just maybe some help from his adaptation power. There was definitely a level of what the fuck (of course) but then he realised he'd have to knuckle down and accept it, no matter if it was real or some delusion. Some tiny part of him misses his buddies back home, but he's mostly persuaded himself that WHATEVER HE DOESN'T NEED THOSE GUYS!!!1 and has gone back to self-reliance and every man for himself. Trouble is, that also means he's lost some of his 'caring' side that he'd had after years with his friends, and that his douche side is starting to come back.

He's also pretty happy with how easy he's really got it (lots of free stuff just for being on tv and doing what he did for a living) and is also sort of excited (yes, he occasionally feels excitement) at the prospect for maybe being an actual successful lawyer in this place!
