He wants to be involved as much with the community as he can. Be seen as a pillar of the community and all that jazz, so that he'll be a trusted figure.

Granted, he's not actively planning anything malicious at the moment, but if he decides to go that route, can't hurt to be respected and seen as a philanthropist.
