THE TL;DR CR Meme
It's that time again and why not start it off with a heart warming and tragic foreshadowing gif?

1. Post with your characters - if you have more than one, make a catch all under one header. It's that time again and why not start it off with a heart warming and tragic foreshadowing gif?

2. respond to other people's characters with your characters.
3. They will tell you exactly what their character thinks of your character in depth! Icly or oocly! Make it long, this is teal deer territory after all.
4. React if you wish!
5. You can use this stuff for cr charts or you can even link to something you have written.
6. This is brought to you by irony from one of the more unfriendly characters in game.
Jonathan Crane

Crane doesn't have favorable impressions of anybody. The folk he tolerates are counted on a few fingers - and Robert's amongst them. Robert is an intelligent person with a common academic background. He strikes Crane as a well-read man who is passionate about his field but disenchanted by the rigmarole of associating with other people who don't understand your vision. Robert seemed world-weary during their first conversation.
But that doesn't mean he won't tell Lucifer that he's a fascinating subject. Crane's curious about the fears hidden under Robert's surface; learning he adopted Yokai as his alter-ego will turn his mild curiosity into fascination. There's a lot behind the psychology of masks, especially since Crane uses one himself. If they begin talking and - though Crane doesn't bond with people - it might be a fascinating thing if they show and discuss their masks with each other? Robert became Yokai to extract revenge on those who wronged him. Crane's motivated by a similar reason; for revenge on the world, caused by all the slights he's received from a young age. Really, they do have a lot in common in some ways that might lead to some villainous association CR? Because Crane DOES work in partnership - and they both seem like the sort who'd associate but work separately.
Also Robert is totally the age Gerald Crane seems to be, just saying.
When things come to a head in August, I imagine Crane won't talk to anybody for a while, but he'll talk to Robert when it comes to things like their work and their intellect and cultural things. Also that villain depression thing. Oh, and if you want to get revenge on Krei, Crane's totally up for coming along and gassing him FOR SCIENCE. MORE CR.

Anyway!
Crane was threading with Bruce on an IC meme, and one of the things that came up is that Crane injects chaos into his experiments to throw up new ideas and variables. Harley's striking him as somebody who's uncontrolled in her chaos, and that makes her uncontrollable and unpredictable, and somebody he wants to avoid.
However, she appreciates his work. He doesn't care about approval and disapproval, but he enjoys an audience - and we see him hamming it up in the third film, where he's clearly enjoying himself. In her company he can let his hair down [in his own way] and be the Scarecrow without needing his mask. Because that's who he is, under his skin. It's happening at the minute without her, but she certainly hastens the process.
PS. You're not his friend, Harley.

Leaving out his relationship with Bruce, this is Crane's most personal negative relationship, more-so than the enmity with Chilton and the hate he has for Matthew. Chilton operates behind the scenes and Matthew's just an annoying little shit - but Will Graham? He walks right into Crane's office and pisses in his trash can.
It's not intimate on a personal level like Will's relationship with Hannibal, but it has the intensity that's missing in Crane's other relationships. I think Crane rates him as more dangerous than Chilton, personally - and I can't wait for shit to go down and for Will to have to parole this shitbird.
WHO WILL JUST TURN UP FOR HIS SESSIONS WITH THE WORST EAT-SHIT SMIRK EVER.

... a subject. Her agoraphobia is one of the common phobias, but it runs deep, and Crane wants to plumb his fingers into her subconscious and dredge it to the surface. She's interesting as a slow-burning project as opposed to one he wants to break into immediately, and he's more patient with her than he is with some because of that - it's nothing personal.
Their casual talk is tolerable for him, too. He knows what he wants, yes - but she's not a disrespectful little shit.
PS. He still hates her accent.

The fact Crane gets off on fear is woven into the fabric of his character. He needs breaking down before that can happen; Walt, Chilton and Raina might be striking him at his ego, but one of the things Crane is most steadfast in is his sense of self. He's always been true to himself and he's extremely difficult to manipulate, though he can be guided - as Penguin well knows. The incident in his basement where he got fear gassed in his face? Yeah, that.
Crane's utterly frustrated by Raina, as well. There's a reason Harley's getting off lightly compared to her, once famine is over. Her manipulation is intimate and personal, and her personality is quite intimate as well? Whereas Crane's perfectly content in his isolation. So they're at opposite ends of the scale. But also? She reminds him a hell of a lot of Sherry. She led him on using her wiles. She was manipulative. She turned on him and made him a laughing stock.
She also ended up dead.
Might want to smack-talk Abduxel after for giving shitty advice, bb.

Crane, in-character? It's not complicated at all. Walt was relevant. He provided him with what he needed; a laboratory, materials, and a man who asked no questions. The problem is Walt wanted Crane's friendship; which is something he isn't capable of understanding on a personal level. I'll paste this from his texts with Bruce because it covers it beautifully:
You have no friends, only people who you can use, who can provide you with something: whether it's direction or satisfaction. You look down on Chilton; you haven't even for him the respect of a predator for his prey, only contempt. You can't pretend to call that friendship or enmity.
But I'm not like Chilton. You respect me, don't you, Scarecrow? I am your enemy and your friend, because I embrace fear. We share a common interest, and one far more personal to you than the blunt tool Chilton calls psychology.
That's it in a nutshell. Basically, Walt needs to show he embraces fear and has a personal interest in it. Then things might turn to the bright side. Bright in the sense of a Georgian summer drought as far as Crane's behavior is concerned BUT IT'S PROGRESS.
Also, Walt wanted to know about his work academically too early in their relationship, in my opinion. Crane's a solitary person who doesn't want friends. Walt is. He made moves to get Crane to reciprocate too early. Not that he would have returned the friendship any later. But Crane's not going to spill it to a fellow chemist this early. His work's extremely intimate. There's a reason he gets fearboners. Do you want to be the source of his next fearboner, Walt? :|

Their first thread went into the latter territory. He had the intellect to see what Crane was up to? Well you're not as smart as he is but WHATEVER. But the fact you disrespected his beliefs, his intelligence, and his knowledge in public? Shit's going down, bro. Their current thread in the hospital is giving him the impression of the former, thankfully.
