TL;DR cr meme

THE TL;DR CR Meme

It's that time again and why not start it off with a heart warming and tragic foreshadowing gif?

1. Post with your characters - if you have more than one, make a catch all under one header.
2. respond to other people's characters with your characters.
3. They will tell you exactly what their character thinks of your character in depth! Icly or oocly! Make it long, this is teal deer territory after all.
4. React if you wish!
5. You can use this stuff for cr charts or you can even link to something you have written.
6. This is brought to you by irony from one of the more unfriendly characters in game.

what's up doc

There's sort of two levels, with how he relates to Crane; the professonal and the personal. They're both pretty similar, to be honest. On one, he is seeing Crane for therapy, and has enough respect for the man to take his advice and counsel and actually listen, despite it possibly making him uncomfortable. What's more, he's inclined to take what praise he can get there, and value it all more preciously so because - in the context of the doctor/patient - he has to (or at least, is subconsciously making) himself look up to Crane to help him see the things he can't.

On the personal level- Crane is a very intelligent man, and with an academic/professory past as well, they have a good few shared experiences. Outside of the therapy, Robert sees him as a younger peer, and respects him a bit more than he would most- possibly due to the whole therapy-on-the-side thing, possibly due to that whole there is so much opportunity here they seem to agree upon. (Even if it's in...different ways.)

I'm really looking forwards to where this all goes, because until it all blows up in his face, he does trust Crane - to a degree. Short of stronger manipulations, there are only so many people he fully trusts, but Crane's about on the best level as anyone could normally hope for at this point. It's not so much a suspicion/distrust as a reluctance to admit things, and with the fact that he does discuss at least some of it in their sessions, well...

Nothing much.

I think the common threads we've mentioned - intellect, personal motivations, a human reason for villainy - are the reason Robert's one of Crane's most positive relationships in the game.

Positive in Crane's understanding of the word, mind.

Their conversations. The mutual love of science. The fact they're scientists with a shared academic background. It's terrible Crane will turn on him - because though it's the natural thing for him to do, he's ruining something positive in his life, rather than letting it grow.

He won't take Robert's advice after August. He won't listen to anything he says, but it'll set them up for deeper CR in the future that will draw on things central to their characters. It strikes me as interesting that Robert might be the next person Crane gravitates to, once his depression about Batman kicks in. Because we all know how he is with Bruce, yet Robert has everything mentioned above, plus he's the same age as Crane's father, almost.

HORRIBLE.

Robert's going to feel betrayed on some level, but at the same time, seeing a bit of himself in Crane- if he believes he himself can be redeemed, then he has to believe that Crane can, to. And yeah, he's not going to be stupid enough to think that it's his ability nor duty to do it, but- someone at least has to try, right?

Or at least try and keep him in control.

now remember the safeword is 'what the fuck do you think we need a safeword for that implies safe and that is the opposite of what we're going for here'

[personal profile] restingstitchface 2015-06-09 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes on both counts.

And that could hurt Robert so hard, if he realises Crane's too far gone to be redeemed. Especially since you said he sees a bit of himself in Crane, who's like a younger peer. Though, I wonder what his view is there on the state of Crane's mental health being responsible for it, versus the fact he's just a completely shitty person.

Who the fuck needs a safeword? The safeword should simply be 'FIRE AT WILL' literally. Ok so Crane might enjoy using fire. Don't hate.

I like to think Callaghan didn't know about Tadashi coming in after him until it was all over. And that his first reaction was grief, because here was this bright star who'd gone in after him and he hadn't needed to; Robert was convinced that they all would move on, and that nobody in their right mind would even think of coming in after him. Especially not, of all people, Tadashi.
The death possibly/probably pushed him to be even more intense with everything; if he failed, then Tadashi would have died for nothing, and he couldn't let that happen. And then the events of the movie, and him pushing further and further and never letting himself look back...

And now. Now he has nothing to do but look back, and pray that he can find some sort of absolution and atonement to this young man in fixing things and giving him a second chance. It's not so much that he 'owes' Tadashi, or that he has to 'repay' anything- but there is an imbalance between them, even if by Tadashi's perception, only so much has happened.

But that's for the best, because it means there is still a chance.

Robert would have never asked Tadashi to die for him, nor would he have asked to trade Tadashi's life for Abigail's - at the same time, though, he knows that if he had to do it all again...he might just do it, because he couldn't bear to make a different choice. And that is what he feels he needs to 'right'; the fact that he wouldn't change things, but Tadashi...

Tadashi just might. And find the angle to right it all.

Robert will do absolutely anything for him, if it leads to ensuring this happens. He will be good. He would be terrible. Tadashi, in a sense, embodies the very concepts of hope and redemption- and what's more, Tadashi has sort of settled himself on the edge of not family, but something certainly more than a student.

Callaghan is a weird guy who is maybe a friend??? but its hard because friendship is weird and subjective????? but anyway they are also a thief maybe(?) but Tachikoma isn't supposed to talk about that because its private between Callaghan and Hiro even though Hiro doesn't really think its private(???) anyway Callaghan is kind of quiet and he seems to get pretty emotional about things but would probably hang out with him more.

THAT CAN BE A GOOD THING? Because sometimes what Robert knows logically and what he feels emotionally are at odds with one another. It's a rather...human trait, tbh, and certainly not what he'd expect an AI to understand. So Magicman fits that mental stereotype he has, even if he's not fully aware of it being a stereotype; in that, though, that gives Callaghan a bit of comfort around him, because he doesn't expect much surprises.

I mean, other than the discovery of new things, but it's still a perceived comfort in a situation where so much has turned upside down for this trashhole.

He's genuinely interested in what more he can learn, and what - if anything - he can apply to his own projects in the future. He's not a master at programming AI by any means, being more hardware than software, but he does have enough knowledge to get enough done to operate his mechanics; surely more knowledge can only be for the best!

PERFECT DAUGHTER

except no. Hime, you are young, you are naive, but- even so, he knows you're trying to do the right thing. She's still in a position where she can whole-heartedly believe that everything will be fine, and as long as she holds on to her optimism, that can only be for the best...the problem is her surviving long enough to do so.

It's not that he's in fear of her dying; more that he has the feeling she leaps before she looks. She needs to learn caution, or he's afraid she will lose that optimism - one way or another. And if he can help out with that, well...

...sure, why not.

Oh, Hiro.

Robert owes you everything and can give you nothing. He doesn't understand why things have gotten so poorly lately, he thought they were getting better, but- somehow he missed something, he supposes, and he doesn't know what he can do to fix it.

He sees Hiro interact with people like Krei and finds himself insanely jealous; it should have been him having that mentor relationship with Hiro, not Alistair of all people. It should be him guiding and nurturing that amazing intelligence and drive, but here he is, on the sidelines because Hiro just couldn't leave well enough alone.

Because he couldn't leave well enough alone.

He'd still do absolutely anything for Hiro, if Hiro asked it of him; considering he's already said as much and they're still where they are, he figures the best thing right now is to just keep avoiding him. Maybe the scar will heal, given a bit of time.

He hopes so. Because it hurts to know he's so indebted to Hiro, and isn't 'allowed' to even try and pay him back. He admires him so damn much...
