TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at someone else's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory might be a haze still and you might even feel frustrated or anxious by the sudden news that you are no longer in your own world and that the Porter scientists and military cannot send you back. You don't get a chance to linger long in the underground Porter lab, but something is clearly amiss; light patches on the floor indicate something else used to sit in that spot in the room. Parts of the wall, floor and the tables look as if they have been refurbished in the past few months -- something happened in here some time ago. Something big.
You're ushered out quickly and then suddenly, you're enveloped in a faint blue blue light before you find yourself under the bright Floridian sun. Another soldier steps toward you with a smile, directing your attention to a car near a large gate. She mentions she'll be debriefing you soon, handing out a brown folder and a pamphlet. You don't see the digital tattoo on your wrist, but it's quickly explained on your way over to the car as you realize there are other confused faces nearby, all holding files of their own.
02. The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place. The locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to help cool you down in this awfully nauseating heat. Some of the locals might thank you for always lending your service to the nation and others might not say anything. In fact, some people might back away from any imPort who quite obviously looks like they aren't from around the neighborhood. Once in a while there's a look of disdain on someone's face and hushed voices. Something about "the outbreak" and "the government's gotta crack down on their medical files". "Some of them can't be right in the head" says another.
03. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, and though it's quieter, there are just as many citizens awed at your presence. Heavy winds have people grasping at their newspapers and constantly brushing hair out of their faces, but that doesn't distract them from crowding you in excitement if you're obviously from a different time or world, or just let it slip that you're a newcomer. Children and young teenagers are especially likely to ask for an autograph and a photo.
Some locals seem less enthused to see you. They never make an approach, but they can be overheard scoffing and muttering something about cameras. "Who do they think they are?" or "I don't like it... it reminds me of the government corruption back in the eighties." What could they be talking about?
04. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania, is normally known for being a little more on the apathetic side, but there's been tension in the atmosphere lately. Nobody will outright state what it is that's rustled their jimmies, though you might find a newsstand with articles on recent and aggressive vigilante behavior within the city. "ImPorts: loyal to the cause of their own?" reads one newspaper article.
People are not as friendly in this city and go out of their way to avoid walking down the same sidewalk as the more obvious looking imPorts pass through. Local cops say nothing, but they scowl at those imPorts and utter something about "no badges" and "acting like authority figures".
05. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities. It's loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. Anyone who they come to determine an imPort is bombarded with all sorts of offers; job offers, advertising gigs, spokesperson for advocating children stay in school, etc. Anything and everything! You name it. Shops offer discounts for food and clothing, whatever they need. People flock in droves with questions, but they all say the same thing. Thank you for your service to this country, Hero. You saved a lot of lives. Wow, feels great to be a hero, doesn't it?

Same with me and Tadashi. My brother. And then we both have Aunt Cass, but I feel kind of bad for her. I know we were a handful.

He pulls his hand back, bringing it down to gently cup Hiro's chin, hoping to ease his gaze upward. ]
In my experience, Hiros are always worth the effort in the end.
Childhood is precious and short, Hiro. Handful or not, don't feel guilty for living it while you can.
[ He pulls back then. He's programmed to love, guide, and protect Hiro; There were no stipulations against extending that care to alternates. Hiro Takachiho was growing up, growing out of his need for a caretaker and becoming a respectable young man and a hero in his own right. Here, however, he could see a young Hiro who still needed him in more ways than one.
He straightens up and gets to his feet before offering another respectful bow. ]
And I, personally, would be delighted to have the honor of guiding? protecting, and caring for you as I would my own creator.
If, of course, you would allow it.
no subject
I - yeah? Who's going to turn that down?
... Are you sure you want to?
no subject
My programming only binds me to Hiro Takachiho. Seeing that, as you've said yourself, that's not your last name, I technically have no obligation to you.
So yes, I am sure. I'm offering because I want to.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you, Hiro...?

[ He bows back, awkwardly. And then ... he offers his fist? ]
no subject
Hiro Hamada. It's a pleasure.
[ He stares down at the hand for a moment, then mirrors the gesture. ]
no subject
as if i wasnt going to do exactly this thing
Again, he mimicks the gesture, replicating the sound to the best of his ability. ]
Ba-la-la-la-lah.
screaming
Perfect.
:D 1/2
He glances around to ensure they're alone, then a blue glow overtakes him, beneath which Hiro would be able to see his silhouette shifting and warping, the boxy man suddenly showing signs of bizarre details --

Though Baymax no longer has a malleable human mouth, one could almost swear he was smiling by the way he tilted his head. ]
How about a test drive?
no subject
That's impressive. Hologram? Shape-shifting? And please tell me you can fly.
no subject
Synthformer. So yes, shape-shifting; The two forms you saw were both physically 'real', so to speak.
[ His shoulders shake at the word 'fly', his synthesizer letting out a soft mechanical rattle -- a chuckle? ]
Some things never change.
We -- that is, the other Hiro and I -- considered flight during my most recent upgrade. Given the amount of power it would take to keep something of my massive weight airborne, we ultimately agreed it wasn't practical or efficient. However...
[ He kneels down, bringing his arms behind him, the way a father might offer his child a piggy-back ride. ]
That doesn't mean the thrusters are just for decoration.
no subject
[ But he'll forgive his other self for making Baymax into a flipping Transformer. That's just badass. He gladly hops up on Baymax's back once he offers. ]
Show me.
i just remembered they started off in a crowd of people, shh, pretend baymax scared em away
If anyone could manage it, I'm certain it's you. But for the time being...
[Once he's certain Hiro is secure, gripping tightly where he'd have the best leverage to hang on, Baymax moves.
With his bulk and weight, one might assume that Baymax is not fast. On the contrary, he is very fast -- and using that speed to run straight for the solid wall of a building.
But at the last moment he jumps, and it's far higher than any human could dream of managing. He makes contact halfway up the building and doesn't even pause to get his bearings, fingers digging into the brick as he uses the last of his upward momentum to start scaling the building. From there, it's all the power of his arms driving them upward, but he barely loses speed. Baymax is at the rooftop in seconds, moving like an insect scurrying from the light.
And then he runs again, soaring across the rooftop with long, even strides, and without even giving Hiro time to process what's happening he's made a running leap off the edge of a four-story building. This jump is equally superhuman, but as the arc of the trajectory begins downward toward the alleyway below, it seems like Baymax isn't going to clear the jump.
Then, suddenly, the thrusters on his back flare to life, just long enough to send them upward and across, until Baymax's feet land firmly on the next rooftop over.
It's there he stops a moment, looking out as the sun begins to set over the city skyline. His head turns slightly, glancing back at his passenger to check on him. ]
How are you holding up back there?
no subject
Holy ... that was amazing.
no subject
Need a rest, or you up for another go?
This one might be longer. That was just the tutorial.

Language, Hiro.
[ Said gruffly, with no hint of irony or his earlier playfulness. But there's barely a beat before Baymax is off and running again, leaping from rooftop to rooftop and bring his new charge along for the ride.
They soar across the city in graceful leaps and arcs, slowly rising above the streets as they get closer into the metro area, hopping through the lights and the sounds and the watching the city below in short bursts, finally stopping for a rest on a large, stable ledge about halfway up one of the smaller skyscrapers in the area, watching the city sparkle below with street lights, cars and neon signs as night finally settled in.
It was a dangerous ledge, but Baymax has a firm grip on Hiro as they look out over the cityscape. It's no flight through San Fransokyo, true, but Baymax had hoped to impress nonetheless. ]

[ He holds on tight, too breathless to laugh this time. But he's wildly excited anyway as he holds on. This is a really, really cool bot. If he can't have the fluffy marshmallow version, well ... This Baymax is pretty darn good too. ]
