first of all let me just say that i love the unspoken assumption that all rogues know each other even if they've never interacted on panel, because they're a sociable bunch and harassing flashes was a pastime to bond over

THE POINT IS they get along surprisingly well considering both of their personalities. you'd think they'd clash more. but no. shade always comes off as like, politely yet distantly amused by whatever stupid thing trickster is doing, and really that's all he asks for. lots and lots of attention and for someone to think he's kind of funny. shade are you watching hey shade i'm gonna do a cannonball into this jello pool are you waaaaatchiiiing

which is probably why despite being a Proper Refined Victorian Gentleman, shade doesn't really ping his "must annoy the hell out of this person" senses. negative attention only makes him more obnoxious. shade is getting trickster's Very Best Behavior, somehow. is he being the weird vaguely paternal figure james never had? i don't know! don't think too hard about it!

so hey congrats on your reform, let's talk shop, please give him a pep talk because he doesn't want to backslide but sometimes a guy just really wants to rob a bank, you feel me
